NYC DOE Teachers/GHI Medication Coverage
HI! Trying to plan ahead so I'm not left with any coverage. I'm starting my first Clomid/IUI cycle. The plan is to do 3 IUI with Clomid cycles and 3 IUI with injectibles. My coverage requires 6 IUIs before IVF and we are Unexplained. What medications are covered? I have GHI and am a NYC DOE teacher. Also does the trigger shot which I will be using this cycle count towards injectible coverage? I will also be on Progesterone suppositories. I searched back through old posts and I see people mentioning PICA coverage and 3 cycles of injectibles. If you have any idea of what is covered and how its covered please let me know. Also I think we have to use Medco now for refills so I don't know how that works when you need meds quickly. Will my REs office know whats covered? Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: NYC DOE Teachers/GHI Medication Coverage
The injectables are all a limit of three orders, when your re orders they should know that they have to order the max that s allowed to count as one "order". Remind them of this just incase. Most of the drugs will have to be ordered from freedom pharmacy (based in MA) and be fed exed to you. Depending on the cost of the order they might need a signature , if you know you can't be home it is no problem to have it sent to the fed ex place, that way you can just pick it up.
I am on my first "order" of gonal f and have done three iuis and now an ivf cycle , and I still have half left if this doesn't work. (This will vary from person to person based on how you respond to the medicine.)
I ran out of my hcg a while ago as I think the max order is only one or two, but thankfully that is only about $80 as opposed to $1000s for some or the other injectables.
Suppositories are not involved in the limit of three.
Eta: I hope you get your bfp before you need to worry about this, and clomid is $5 from cvs so hopefully that is all you will need!

Thanks so much for the info. It was really helpful since I had my CD 3 BW and Sono app. I asked about the trigger shot and they can only order one at a time. I picked up Clomid and it was $5. I asked at CVS about refills and Medco. The guy said he thinks I can get one refill and then I'll have to go through Medco. Did you have to order Clomid through Medco after the second time? I know the prescription coverage changed recently with only one refill through a regular pharmacy. Maybe I can ask my RE to write a script for 10 pills next month...idk. My res office said they will order the Progesterone through Freedom pharmacy since thats where the trigger is coming from. They said I should expect a call from the pharmacy this week. Thanks for a heads up on the injectables. If I have to go with that on my 4th IUI cycle I will ask them to order the max...hopefully they will do it. How many shots are there with a medicated IUI cycle? Thanks for your help, I appreciate it. Wishing you the best of luck this cycle.

Re: NYC DOE Teachers/GHI Medication Coverage
Everyone varries with how many shots, I used less then one pen for my iuis, others use more.
For the clomid at cvs I was able to get it from there each time, I think bc it is not a refill each time and prescribed new it s ok. It is not considered a maintenance drug so I think that is why we are ok. Like if someone got strep thoat 3 months in a row you can still get your antibiotics from cvs each time, but something like birth control or a heart medication that you are on long term you have to refill by mail.

Wow less than one pen with IUIs...I was thinking it would be so much more. Good to know that it can vary. Thats good to know about the Clomid. Let's hope I don't get any weird side effects from it. Gonna take the first one now. We are unexplained so I am interested to see what Clomid will do for me. Thanks again for the info.

Re: NYC DOE Teachers/GHI Medication Coverage
The best thing to do is have your dr write the script for the maximum alottment per script....it is better to have extra then not enough.....

Thanks ladies. I'll be sure to ask the RE to write the maximum allowance per script. Hopefully they already know this and won't have a problem with it. Thanks.
