Bring what you like in terms of "toiletries". I brought a blow dryer and makeup the first time and definitely used them! There is something about taking a shower and getting yourself "ready" that makes you feel so good. Plus I want to look nice for visitors.
Yes! The next day they took out my IV and I showered and put some make up on.
I didn't blow dry my hair or do my hair or anything, just put it up but it made me feel human again.
Even the nurse commented, look at you, all dolled up. (I wasn't, but just that little bit made a huge difference from the day before when I looked like death on toast!!)
I felt better seeing visitors with a little make up on.
I am scary without it.

I have to admit, I did bring my blow dryer, make up, and flat iron and I used it each day. I am kind of funny about looking presentable and I was having tons of visitors so it was important to me to look and feel good. I had a pedicure before my cesarean and a wax - I was very dedicated to feeling good about how I looked. I wore a full face of make up during my CS - eyeliner, mascara, and all. Made a difference in the pics! 
But yeah, I'm a little nutty about that stuff so I could understand why someone might want to bring that.
I definitely packed and used my flat iron. I did put on makeup eventually. The day I had the most visitors I was still on the IV and Heparin Pump and catheter(not fun) so I didn't get all glam until day 3. I went home on day 5 .

They kept my IV hooked up until they released me, literally until the moment I was leaving the hospital. I think because I was being kept under watch for the hypertension, and it wasn't fully under control still, they wanted to keep the option of hooking back up the IV meds if I needed them. I wasn't comfortable showering with that thing on my hand (because that was the only place they could actually link up to a vein). I did, with a glove on, but I still didn't feel up for doing the full glam.

Thanks everyone!!!! This is so helpful.
I may reconsider a few items. But I know myself and will want to have everything on hand just in case (especially my hair dryer, flat iron and makeup). Plus, honestly my bag is only a small duffle (smaller than a carry on) so it's not like I'm moving into the place lol.
Hahaha ditto about the wine!!!! I feel like Champagne is totally acceptable!

someone at work said the hospitals used to give champagne and lobster.
so.... sushi and wine can't be THAT out of the question!!

My best friend brought my husband a beer and a cheeseburger and fries when she came and visited us in the hospital. He was the happiest person in the world.

I don't know about the champagne but I know a hospital that gives a Surf and Turf Dinner with Sparkling Grape Juice.
I don't think it's an issue if you bring your own champagne.

I would not even bring the hair dryer and straightener. Bring minimal makeup. If you end up having a c-section you can't even get out of bed for a whole day.

I think that varies from person to person.
I was walking around my room that evening -- they took that catheter out when I told them that I was going to push myself to get up and walk and that I felt good to do so... I had my CS at 2pm earlier that day. They also took the IV out.
By the following morning I had asked that the epi be removed from my back. By that time, it was useless as I was not taking any RX meds - only Motrin orally. They did and I took a shower and got myself ready with hair and make up, wore regular sweats and a shirt with my UGG slippers. I felt really good so I walked the hallway pushing DS in that plastic bassinet on wheels.
I also did not take RX pain meds - just what they gave me via IV during the surgery -- after, I requested Motrin only. The RX meds make me very ill and feel very looped. So, I made it a point to only take good doses of Motrin.
While the nurses did comment on how I was "remarkable" (oh please ) and that my situation was "rare" -- it can happen.
I really have to credit the ladies on here for that -- because before my CS I asked for advice and overwhelmingly women on here told me PUSH YOURSELF and get up and walk as soon as possible. The sooner you do it, and it will suck, but the sooner you do it the better off you are and the better you'll feel. They were SO beyond right. I was SO thankful for that. I would have never pushed myself if they didn't tell me to.
