Family vacation within driving distance
I need some ideas on a good place to go this summer for a family vacation. We have two young girls (one will be four and the other one and a half). My preference is driving distance but we aren't married to that. Thanks.

Montauk, dutch wonderland, ocean city, are are good options. We've done these trips with my kids and had good experiences!

I've only taken DD to Dutch Wonderland/Hershey Park. I can remember when I was younger my parents taking me to Lake George and Bush Gardens in VA.

Re: Family vacation within driving distance
DC (museums are all free, historical, lots of walking, great zoo, great food)
Virginia beach (I went a lot as a kid)
Williamsburg (went a few years ago, decent amount to see, I would combo w DC cuz my kids are young still)
Newport, RI (always a winner with beach & history)
Even NYC (stay at a hotel & be a tourist: China town dim sum, Statue of Liberty, transit museum, circle line: we did this on a warm weekend in November & loved it)
Cape may (nice beach, teeny town good for beach goers) Philadelphia (great city, lots to see)
Boston (we had an absolute blast last summer & did whale watching that blew the kids' minds)
I'm a big fan of taking "adult" vacations & having the kids experience as they come along. The kids love it & we have experiences that make them grow.
We don't like to drive too much because we can only take a week at a time...but if we had 2, I'd love to go cross country!

There are so many places in the Adirondacks near Lake George! Rent a cabin or a house if you don't love motel like hotels. I love Loon Lake or Diamond Point

What did you do in boston that was awesome? Dh and I love history so we always want to go there but scared the boys(almost 4 and almost 6) will be bored.

I don't know if you'd consider 15 hours "driving distance," but we had a blast in Hilton Head, SC. We stayed at the Disney Resort there and had an amazing time (DS had just turned 2 when we went and loved it).
I would also suggest Mystic, CT.

We stayed almost a week & then went to cape cod for the whale watch (the highlight as my kids love whales and it is just phenomenal to see how big they are).
They have made many historical tours very kiddie friendly from the Tea party reenactment (kids got to throw the tea overboard & we learned about the fact it was low tide & tea was piling up), to the USS constitution (and the awesome new museum dedicated to it), duck tours was really fun, we did walking tours, went to the aquarium, amazing restaurants & ran out of time: there was also a children's art museum & museum of science. We stayed close to The aquarium, which is really walking distance to everywhere we went.
My kids were 2 & 4 (just turned 4). Some of it was over their heads, but they really loved it. They were def not bored!
