Highlights with dark hair
I have very dark hair, almost black...would highlights look odd with this color hair? Any pictures you can show me for inspiration? would you get highlights starting on the top or underneath?

Re: Highlights with dark hair
You can get highlights that aren't blonde. Blonde would look weird on super dark hair, but you can get highlights that are just a few shades lighter than your natural, maybe like a caramel brown. I think it would look great.

Highlights with dark hair
I would only do the highlights a few shades lighter than your natural hair. But that's me, I'm not a fan of drastic highlights.

Highlights with dark hair
I agree with above posters. I am not a fan of striped blondes with very dark hair, it looks fake and odd. I def say a few shades lighter, like a caramel is nice. I love seeing a dark red, but not so much in style anymore. I love caramel highlights like above, subtle not stripey on dark haired girls. Its beautiful.

Re: Highlights with dark hair
I had them, and I didn't feel like myself. I felt like the highlights took away from the vibrancy and shine of my dark dark hair.
Here is me with highlights and with just my natural almost-black color. My highlights were subtle, but for some reason I just liked it better ALL dark.
but you gotta experiment a little sometimes Image Attachment(s):

Re: Highlights with dark hair
I have the exact same situation. I hated the way highlights looked on me but wanted to brighten it up. I've done it two ways and loved both. I've fond a very subtle balayage ombré with lighter ends. But then since I am sprouting new grays now I've done slightly lighter than my natural color on the top layer and framed my face with lighter strands. I found the images on Pinterest. I can't seem to upload the image but if you google pics of Ciara with face framing highlights you can prob find them.

i think it looks good.
I have jet black hair. i get what you are saying and it mainly has to do with the fact that highlights strip hair color and look dry. but using the right products will help it look great.
