Is hicksville a soild neighborhood ? How are the school district good? I did see the ratings on greatschool.com but I also wanted to some opinions from parents.
The taxes are quite low in hicksville thats why we are looking at Hicksville.

You'll always get different answers when asking how "good" or "bad" a school district is, so all I can give you is my opinion. I would not want my child in the Hicksville school district. I've heard conflicting stories about the elementary schools, but I've heard consistent displeasure with the middle and high school. If this is a short term house and you're planning on having a child/children and they'll only be in the elementary schools at which point you'd likely move to a different town to buy your "forever home", it might work. But I wouldn't buy my forever home in Hicksville. I have 2 friends whose houses have been on the market in Hicksville for close to a year at this point, one has had 2 offers that fell through, and the other has had 1 that fell through. Both of their homes are very nice and in nice neighborhoods, but I don't think there are many people looking to purchase in the area.

I grew up in Hicksville and went to public schools there. Feel free to FM with any questions. Chat Icon

It is a blue collar neighborhood with an emerging Hispanic and Indian / Middle Eastern population. The Broadway Mall and various industry in the area help keep taxes low. The schools are well funded and the crime is low. There is great access to LIRR and parkways and lots of shopping and parks.

I agree. I was on Hicksville's sub list a few years ago and subbed for a little over a week in the middle school. It did not give me a positive view of the district.

I'm not a fan of the school district either and honestly there's only 1 part of Hicksville I would consider living and that's the hillside terrace section. Even then I would send my kids to private school.

not a fan of hicksville- not the best area to live IMO... many of the surrounding towns are better, with better schools (massapequa for sure)- i have a few friends in hicksville who are struggling to move because they aren't getting a great price for their home based on what they paid a few years ago.. i don't really think it's an area many want to move to lately

My mother-in-law lives in Hicksville and while it seems like a sleepy town, i don't think i would personally move there. The town is going through major changes and Broadway is pretty much considered little India/ little Middle East. Not that there is anything wrong with that but i wanted to give you an idea of the emerging nationalities moving into the area. My sister-in-law is a 3rd grade teacher (Dutch Lane) there and says there is a substantial amount of ESL students as well. I do have one good friend that moved there about 7 years ago and she loves it. Her kids are doing well in school and they have not had any problems what so ever.

My friend lives in a very nice part of Hicksville- smaller ranch homes, but very cute neighborhood--borders Plainview.( west of S.Oyster Bay & north of Plainview Road)

It is in Hicksville School district, but her kids aren't in school yet.

I consult in Hicksville and am in the schools everyday. Hicksville is a huge district. I have to say though, that most of the schools and classes I'm in are excellent. I've been in tons of districts in my career and Hicksville hands down is one of the best. I personally wouldn't want to live in the area because I love more beachy/watery areas on Long Island but I would definitely love having my son in any of the classes I've been in. The middle school is excellent too.
