Tax Grievance in Suffolk County
How hard is it to do it yourself? Will I be in way over my head? Where do I even start? Is there a website where I can download the forms?
Sorry for all the questions... I am trying to avoid paying someone else to do it if I could do it myself.

i am not sure what town you are in - they are specific to township
I know Huntington - the forms are available the first 2 weeks of may and due usually the 3rd teusday but maybe earlier mattering how days fall. The instruction form tells you exactly how to fill it out -
the only thing that you need help with is a realestate agent to give you comps if you don't have a recent appraisal. I have had to pay for one appraisal - the next I just used as guidance with new comps

You can do it yourself. I have done it successfully twice. Check with your town's tax department by calling your Town Hall, or go to the town website.

Re: Tax Grievance in Suffolk County
The deadline in Suffolk County pursuant to state law is the 3rd Tuesday in May - this year it's May 19.
Most, if not all, Towns have the forms available on their website under the "assessor's office" section.

I am in the Town of Brookhaven. I just found the forms online. Do I just go to a realtor and ask for the information? How much do they charge? I am clueless about all this.
ETA: My house was appraised in July of 2012 when we refinanced. Is that recent enough?
