movie theater birthday party

Has anyone had one for thier child or recntly been to one?
I have a soon to be 6 yera old and a soon to 4 year old. Their birthdays are 3 days apart and I ilike to try to do a party for them together.Typically it has been just family and a few friends.
This year, they both want to invite all of their classmates.
This will lprobably be about 40 kids.

If you have been to one of these parties, was it any good? Do you think a movie party for 4 years old is not a good idea?

I really can't think of anywhere else that can handle that amount of children and would be good for both boys and girls without costing me a lot of money.

Re: movie theater birthday party

Personally I don't think it's a good idea. Especially the 4 yr old party. There are going to be kids there that are 3 and I know I'm not ready to do a drop off party so young so that means paying for a parent as well. They all have a ton of bathroom breaks so you'll be in and out as well. I want to do a movie birthday one day, but would only do it for 7 and older and only close friends of DS. Maybe 10 kids. 40 is a lot to take to the movies. Plus, my almost 4 yr old gets antsy at the movies. Heck, my almost 6 year old does as well.

What about a BounceU kind of place for all the kids that age?

I think it's a great way to have a fairly low cost party. I have been to them, they are fun. 4 years may be a bit young, and keep in mind you have to pick a movie both ages will sit through.

My twin boys will be 4yr in October & we have not watched any movies yet. I don't think they would sit.

Re: movie theater birthday party

We just went to one for a five year old, most of the kids sat through the movie but it was def noisy lol but the kids seemed to enjoy it. The only prob was eating they didn't have a seperate room it was early so they served bagels at the beginning. Of course kids were given popcorn and drinks mom put out some candy and cake at the end, the prob was bagels and cake had to be eaten in movie theater seat not at a table, very hard for little ones,
So that would be something to check into and consider

At that age, it would probably be noisy but that's the worst of it. My DD in grade 2 went to a 7th birthday party where her whole class and more was invited. I did not stay as it was a short party and I felt it was under control- but she has some rowdy boys in her class who started a food fight. Needless to say, DD loved it, I am sure the mom who held the party was not as pleased.

I would ONLY do this movie party if you can recruit quite a few other moms to assist you in keeping watch of the kids. There's no way you and your husband (or partner) could keep track of 40 kids in a dark theater. I would say you need at least one adult for every 8-10 kids. You also might want to talk to the theater about possibly closing it to the public for that time. They do rent out the entire theater sometimes.

Re: movie theater birthday party

My 4 yo has been to three movie theater parties and he enjoys them. As long as it is an age-appropriate movie (for him it was Planes, Big Hero 6, and Madagascar) most kids that age will be able to sit through it. My DH stayed with him at all three parties... I definitely would not be comfortable leaving a 4 yo at a movie without me or my DH there.
They were all in the morning, so bagels were served and of course, the kids had popcorn. I think it's a perfect age!

You need to account for adults also, because I don't know any parent of a 4 year old that will drop their child off at a public movie theater.

Bowling can host that many kids, and it's relatively inexpensive.

I'd do something more like bowling... but the movie idea could work with lots of planning.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I was actually hoping to have it at a thaeter that rents out the whole theater for the party. This way I don't have to pay extra for parents. I definitely don't want parents dropping of their 4 years olds:)
I'll have to look into other options- maybe bowling.

I have been to parties at Babylon Movie Theater. They rented out the place on a Sunday morning and they brought their own movie in, which was great, since they had two age ranges also.

Don't know where you are located but Elwood theater rents the whole theater. The have certain times of day for parties and it's a pretty small theater place.
