Did I mess up?

I responded to a school position via email sending a whole explanation that colleagues suggested I reach out regarding the position since I would be a good fit, explained who I was, my experience, and attached my resume. And then I see in the position it stated to apply only on OLAS, to not send anything to HR.

I did then apply on OLAS the correct way.

I actually didn't send the resume and email to HR. I sent it to the special ed director Chat Icon I am shameless sometimes. Chat Icon

So - if I still wound up applying on OLAS, does it look like I am an idiot who cannot follow directions? Or does it look like "who does this person think she is emailing the director"?

I decided to do this just to see if they were interested. I am not going to be devastated if I do not hear back as I am not sure if I want to travel out to this particular school district anyway, but I am still interested enough to apply and see.

do you think I totally blew it? Chat Icon

Re: Did I mess up?

You mean suggestions in the body of the cover letter?

I think it really depends on the person receiving it.... some people appreciate the initiative while others want people who strictly follow the rules.

That's what I'm thinking. Although in the current climate they'll be annoyed I think. Thing is... I'm highly qualified for what they're looking for so I'm hoping it'll keep my resume from being glanced over. Guess I'm taking that chance. If it's meant to be it'll be.

Re: Did I mess up?

I have been known to send my resume directly to building principals... I am shameless as well.

I don't think you blew it. All it takes is ONE person to glance over your resume, see something they like, and decide to call you regardless HOW they got your information.

Good luck!

I think you're fine. We have to do what we can to get noticed, esp. In this climate. I would do it too, I think, unless the OLASJOBS ad said specifically says no mailing/faxing of resumes. Some do.
