Re: Grandma topic. Any thoughts on this?

We have 2 pop pop's. My mom is Mum and mil is grandma. When asking about pop pop, they say "mums pop pop or grandma's pop pop". I say mum or grandmas depending on who I mean.
DD does this too! She says grandma's grandpa and nana's grandpa. MIL wanted to be nana but my grandmother is also nana so she says "my nana" or "your nana" but I try to get her to say our nana for my grandmother. That keeps everyone straight without offending anyone. Since other grandma has definite potential to offend them I would go by grandma first name or last name.

Grandma topic. Any thoughts on this?
When I was growing up, we called both of my grandmothers Nana and we used their first names to differentiate between them. My dd calls her grandmothers Grandma, (my mom passed away, but I think she would have wanted to be Nana, and dd has Dh's mom and stepmom, which she calls both Grandma) and she is starting to get confused between them. She was talking to dh's stepmom on the phone yesterday and thanked her for something DHs mom sent her. So I think we're going to start teaching her to add on their first names.

Grandma topic. Any thoughts on this?
as a kid I had grandma (first name) grandma (first name) and grandma (last name) and a nanny (divorced/remarried does this lol) and I wasn't confused and no one was called grandma (first or last name) to their face it was just to differentiate to ME

Grandma topic. Any thoughts on this?
My brothers children called their 2 grandmas grandma (1st name). I wouldnt have a problem with that. What about it is making you uncomfortable? I am not understanding the issue...

Re: Grandma topic. Any thoughts on this?
We do Grandma First Name when referring to The Grandmas who aren't present to avoid confusion. When talking to the actual Grandma they just say Grandma. It hasn't been confusing or weird. I could see it being awkward having DC refer to them as Other Grandma when talking on the phone or in person. Yikes!

I did grandma first name my entire life. I don't think there's anything odd about that at all. I think I would be a mad grandma if I was other grandma, lol.

Grandma topic. Any thoughts on this?
If my DD is speaking directly to my mother or my mother in law, she calls her just "Grandma," but if she is talking to one of us and neither one of them is present she will say "Grandma (first name)" to differentiate between the two. I don't see anything wrong with it.

Grandma topic. Any thoughts on this?
I only had 1 grandma growing up, so she was grandma. I had a Nana and a Nanny (great-grandmas). DS has a grandma and a mama (pronounced maumau - it's the Canto term of endearment for the paternal grandmother). He also has a Gigi up in heaven who watches over him. Personally, I think that it should be up to the person what they want to be called, so if they want to be grandma lucy (like my nana was to my mom) that's what they should be called. The only person I'm having trouble figuring out is my step-mother. I am not comfortable with him calling her grandma at all because that is my mom... and there's bad blood there... otherwise it wouldn't be an issue.

Re: Grandma topic. Any thoughts on this?
I only had one grandma growing up so I called her Granny or Grandma.
My Mom and my MIL both prefer to be called grandma so we'll just do grandma x (first name) and grandma y (first name).
Not a big deal IMO

Grandma topic. Any thoughts on this?
DD calls her grandmas MAMA and NONNA so no problems here. But, growing up we had one grandma who lived with us who was grandma. and another who lived in a diff country who I called dirty grandma.. for no other reason than I wasn't familiar with her.. So Im thinking Grandma first name is fine!!!

Grandma topic. Any thoughts on this?
My son who is now almost 6 started to differentiate his 3 grandmas by their pets. Grandma with the cat (my mom), Grandma Benny (dh mom) and Grandma Max (dh stepmom). Now my 3 year old does it too. it will probably be like this forever.

Grandma sounds like she needs to get over it Let the kid decide. I don't see what the big deal is in the situation you outlined.

Grandma topic. Any thoughts on this?
If she wants to be called Grandma Mary (or whatever), who cares? Let her be called Grandma Mary...it's not like she asked to be called Your Highness. Though I think this bothers you bc IIRC you don't get along with her.

Re: Grandma topic. Any thoughts on this?
My kids have three grandmas because my parents are divorced and remarried. They all go by "Grandma First Name". Well, one shortened her name to the first letter so she's "Grandma J". My 2yo calls them all Grandma J.
Growing up, I always called my grandparents "Grandma Last Name" when referring to them but just "Grandma" in person.

I would pick my battles and for me this wouldn't be one of them. If she is okay with first name basis, I would be also.

I disagree. "Other Grandma"? Come on, lol. I'm pretty easy going and would be like wtf. They wait so long to be grandparents and love it so much.

I differentiated my grandmas by calling them Grandma (last name). Why we did the last name I don't know because I think the first name is much more common. But if I was with that Grandma, I just called her Grandma.
This is what we did growing up too, but for DS we have been using Grandma (first name) to differentiate. I don't see anything wrong with using their first name after grandma.

Re: Grandma topic. Any thoughts on this?
OK, maybe we were weird kids, but when my grandmothers would call & we'd answer the phone my brother & I would said It's Grandma Daddy's mother" Or "Grandma Mommy's mother"
My father called one of his grandmas Nana & the other Grandma Last Name, which I always thought was a- too formal & b- unnecessary, since the other one was Nana, not Grandma.
My cousin called hers both Grandma & then added on nicknames base don where one lived & what the other called her.
Grandma first name is fine if that's what the grandmother wants, but I usually here that when there are multiple grandmas (like step grandmas & things) & the more extended grandmas are the ones who get the Grandma first name.
I also have a colleague, whose grandkids just call her her by her first name, but that's what she wanted.
