If you do your own landscaping / gardening ....
How many hours per week do you spend on it? Also, how large is your property?

Re: If you do your own landscaping / gardening ....
My DH was devoting a couple hours Saturday morning to mowing and we realized it wasn't worth it, though he enjoyed it w two kids it wasn't feasible every week. Now we have landscapers mow but he does the flowers, plants, etx bc he loves that. Our lot isn't huge by LI standards but in queens it's a double lot, so not small either

Re: If you do your own landscaping / gardening ....
We do our own landscaping, gardening, and also keep a vegetable garden. We lived in the city before moving out to the burbs and DH is still in the "I want to care for my yard myself" mindset. He mows once every 1-2 weeks and it takes him about an hour. we are on a 60x100 lot and have a large deck so not overly large. He spent a few hours doing spring cleanup and weeding -- we played out in the backyard at the same time and this year DS (almost 4) helped. we made 2-3 trips for plants -- in the backyard we planted 2 annuals and one potted, front yard we did a decent amount of planting but we did it all as a family. This year DS helped mulch -- I wasn't much help because I had our 7mo. Mostly one-time things aside from the mowing and our garden. Once we got everything planted its a few minutes here and there to check and a few more minutes most days to harvest. DH enjoys doing the planting and we enjoy spending time outside so its fun for all of us. If it gets to be too much of a burden we will hire out basic upkeep like mowing

Re: If you do your own landscaping / gardening ....
We have a landscaper for mows weekly. I do all the gardening, trimming bushes, and I laid sod memorial day weekend.
I hate paying money to a landscaper when we could easily mow the lawn but dh insists. Next year when both my girls are in school I will go back to mowing.
Since the first weekend of May I would say every sat and Sunday I've spent at least 3 -6hours each day cleaning out beds, made a new garden along our back fence, trimmed all of our bushes and cleaned up pollen. Its finally coming together and this should be my last weekend waking up at the crack of dawn to go to home depot and getting filthy in our yard.

Re: If you do your own landscaping / gardening ....
My neighbors make fun of him…...DH is obsessed with our lawn. He mows it himself and always will. I'd say he spends about 3-4 hours a week on the lawn alone - not to mention any gardening, seasonal stuff or other landscape projects. We have awful soil and drainage, so he's been working hard this spring to get it perfect…..I'd say he's been spending about 1-2 hours on it a day for the past few weeks. With all the "stuff" falling from trees this time of year, he blows off the yard at least once a day…..he's obsessed.
We have 3/4 an acre. DH works nights - so he does his yard work during the day when I'm at work. It generally doesn't affect the weekends - he tries to protect them for family time.
I generally handle the gardens - often with some degree of help from DH.

If you do your own landscaping / gardening ....
My DH does the landscaping. I plant the flowers and tend to my vegetable garden but he keeps up with the beddings of the other flowers. It takes him on average 2 hours, if he does the beddings, and maybe an hour and a half without them. He mows, edges, blows, and then moves around the dirt in the beddings every other week. We are on 60X100 lot. I told him to hire someone but he likes doing it, so good for him. I get to keep the cleaning people lol

Husband, an hour per week mowing edge and stuff
Me, an hour a week, sweeping street, turning and weeding the beds.
Plus I like to putz around in the yard all the time, weeding and gardening and planting. Thats my quiet time and I like being outside. I could be out there everyday.

If you do your own landscaping / gardening ....
Up until this year DH did the mowing and such. It took him all day on Sunday. It was crazy. But he is a perfectionist and needed it done his way. This year I hired a landscaper. But the weeding still needs to get done. Shrubs still need to be trimmed. Leaves still need to be picked up. I would say that we spend about 8 hours a week doing all the other yard stuff. I have 1/3 acre and my property is heavily landscaped with shrubs and trees and such. We also have several patios that need maintenance. I do an hour here and there while my DS is playing outside. It's not too bad and I enjoy it after work before dinner usually.

We have a large corner property. It usually takes DH about 2-2.5 hours each week to mow, and weed wack.. I try to trim whenever I see that the bushes are starting to look overgrown, every once in a while. As far as putting down fertilizer and chemicals, we hire a guy to do just that, he comes 4x a season.

when we did it, we spent at least 1 hr per week weeding (and were behind) and 1 hr mowing. we slacked on weedwhacking. 100x100 but we have a cement area w/ pool too
