Daycare costs for 2 - ballpark
Hi,
We have our second on the way next month - and DH is uneasy with how much we'll need to pay our nanny to compensate for the additional child. Can anyone give me some ballpark numbers for comparison's sake as to what we'd be paying at a daycare? In general it would be 2 kids, 5 days a week - early drop off and late pick up every day.
I know we pay a bit more for the premium of having her in our home (doing laundry and other assorted VERY helpful tasks)…..but I think i've lost grasp on how much of a "premium" we're up to.
If you'd prefer to FM, please do!
TIA!

I'd say between 600 and 700 dollars depending on location. And remember infant cost more.

Daycare costs for 2 - ballpark
With an infant and a toddler we paid around $2200 for daycare with late pick up - it would have been an extra $100 to include early drop off as well.

Re: Daycare costs for 2 - ballpark
$3-5k per month.
Don't forget to factor in preschool and activity costs if your kids stay home with a nanny.
We used to have a nanny but still sent our older child to preschool. Nanny would take younger child to places like Gymboree so that was an additional cost.

Re: Daycare costs for 2 - ballpark
check into certified in-home daycares. They are still regulated and much cheaper.
When I was looking it was almost half the cost of the daycares centers, like Tutor Time, etc.
It was the best decision I ever made, the daycare is set up in their basement, with full kitchen, bathroom, and 3 separate rooms for playing/sleeping. She also runs 2 other locations out of other houses close by.

Re: Daycare costs for 2 - ballpark
We will have 2 in day care starting late october. DS2 is coming 7/31.
Right now we pay $300 per week for my 2 years old son.
Once baby joins him it will be $325/weekf for baby and $240 for my toddler (they offer a 20% sibling discount).
That is for 9 hours a day. They do not charge overtime for infants, it is $7/hour if you go over the 9 hours for all other ages.
I will say, having just recently looked into other places, our place is actually less than most. Most only offer 10% sibling discount, if any and their rates are already a little higher. Our place aslo gives us unlimited vacation weeks, most places do not do that.

Yeah, this is what I was going to say, early drop off and late pick up are going to add another $300 probably.

Re: Daycare costs for 2 - ballpark
8-6 M-F about $560 a week early drop off and late pick up is extra but not sure how much
ETA: I think I remember early drop off was $30 extra a week not sure if they double it for 2 I assume they will. I would also think late pickup would be the same but I also would think they might give you some kind of break

Daycare costs for 2 - ballpark
DD's daycare is $200 for 4 days 9-5:30. I think the earliest we can drop off is 7:30 or 8. Hoping we get a sibling discount.

It's an in home but we're very happy with it. Provides meals too! $50/day. We paid $250 when we did 5 days.

Really? Every center we looked at was about $100 more a week. She's 15m old. $100 a week extra adds up!

Yeah... You're looking at at least an additional $100 per week. More if you need late pick up or early drop off. And for infant (like DS at 7 months, I provide all food - bottles, cereal, and fruit/veggies).

depends on time if she cant drop off before 8 than no I don't see it being that much cheaper for a newborn in my school its $322 a week yes its still about $75 cheaper a week (if you did 5 days)but to me that isn't a huge savings where I would pick one place I may like over another because its cheaper. and at this place they provide meals for kids not on table food? I know some places will provide everything from diapers, wipes and formula if they do all that than yes I would than say this would be much cheaper.

$75 per week over the course of a year is just about $4K. I also pay (base) more than $322 per week for my daycare, before I pay for the early drop off and late pick up. $4K per year might not be a lot to you, but it might be a lot for someone else. I also don't think anyone is suggesting picking a place you really like over another one just because it's cheaper...

I don't need to drop off earlier than 8:45 and usually drop off between 9 & 9:10. DH gets out of work by 4:30 so we don't need late pickup either. DD was never really on baby food so they always provided her with table food and milk once she switched over from formula. We struggle with $200 a week (still not sure how we'll manage once #2 starts which is why I'm hoping for a discount!) so $322 would stretch us really thin. That extra $75-$100 or whatever it is we save, when you think about how much we pay a year (10,400), is over $6000 saved! That's a lot to me!

Re: Daycare costs for 2 - ballpark
This feedback is so helpful - thanks everyone!
My "finding" is that we'll be paying something comparable, though slightly higher than some daycare options - but for that extra money, my laundry is done, house is clean - and I get the convenience of not lugging the kids out in the morning. They stay sleeping and I just leave. (I should note, some days I leave at 6am - which is highly unlikely for most day care facilities that I checked out….and my nanny accommodates me with no problems.)
While it feels like I pay her a lot of money, the conveniences are worth it.

I'm always amazed by the part-time costs for daycare, they really don't discount at all when you go down from 5 days a week to 3, or at least the discount is minimal. I get why, just annoying, makes working part-time for me almost impossible.
