Door to backyard from kitchen
Hi, does anyone have a single door to your backyard from your kitchen? If so, can you please share a picture?
We are in between sliders from the dining room to the backyard, or a single door from the kitchen to the backyard.
If we do the sliders we would have to have a 3ft landing built and stairs going down to my patio which would take up more of my small backyard.
If we do the single door it would come out the side of my house where we would build a small patio for grilling.
The sliders would look so much nicer, but the door on the side makes more sense for space issues with the backyard. We will be putting full length windows in the dining if we do not put the sliders there.

We have sliders from the kitchen onto the deck. I like it - and if I need to leave a door open to either clean up from dinner outside or bring food out, I think it's easier.

Door to backyard from kitchen
At one end of our kitchen we have one step down to the laundry room/mud room and a half bath. The door to the backyard is there also - it leads directly to a covered patio where we have our table and grill. Right now, there are concrete steps from the door to the patio (2 steps), but DH is going to re-do the steps in the next couple of weeks

I got a printout of the layout with the single door vs double sliders, and the sliders look sooooooo much better. I just don't want to take up anymore of the backyard so I am torn. The single door would go out the side.

I don't think you'll regret it. You get a lot of light into the kitchen also which will really open it up.

We had our last 2 estimates come tonight, and we are doing it. It's only going to take up 3ft. We are just going to move our firepit to the other side of the yard.

I would definitely go for sliders/french doors vs. a single door. I kind of have a single door from my kitchen area to my backyard and I don't love it. With sliders you would be able to see a lot more and feel much more connected to your backyard. I wish I had the space for sliders but we have our basement steps right there so there were no options.

I have a single door now and wanted french doors. But now I am rethinking it. It will be done as part of our kitchen renovation. By having the single door, I am only losing 3 feet of kitchen space. To do sliders, I would be losing a lot more space. Space I am not willing to give up. To do french doors, they would be small and I think it would look silly. I am going to stick to the single door and just relocate it.
My door has a storm door as well. When I entertain. I keep the storm door open and the inside door open and people can just come and go through the house.

We have a single door right now. Eventually when we have our back steps redone I want to do sliders to the backyard. IMO it looks much nicer.

We were told from one company that it's about 3k to do it with a 3ft landing and steps down. I am not sure if that is because they are doing my whole first floor so everything will be down to the studs already, but that is what they said. We are still waiting on the other estimates.

A lot of my neighbors have a single door from the kitchen, and while it might not pack as much punch as having the sliders in the dining room, here's a couple of things to consider:
1. function: the door from the kitchen sounds to make sense for a lot of reasons, most importantly it's probably ideal for transporting food, etc. outside when you want to entertain outdoors and allows you to maximize your small yard.
2. Installing the windows in lieu of the sliders will still give you just as great an impact, architectural interest and light.
