I did not wash any of those things when I opened them.

The thought never crossed my mind.

I washed the swing cover because we got it used but that was it.

I guess I'm in the minority but yes, I washed everything out of the box before DD used it (swing cover, rock 'n play cover, etc.) I wasn't afraid of germs (obviously because it was brand new out of box) but I thought a lot of the material felt stiff and had a boxed/plastic-y smell to it.

I washed everything that would come in or near contact to dd's skin. Who knows what dust is in the factory?

And the things that couldn't be removed and washed (like the fabric sides and hood on the bassinet), I ran a steamer over to kill any microorganisms and freshen it up.

Nope! All I washed is the rock and play cover and bassinet sheet from DD that was in the attic for the last year. Anything new(car seat, stroller, etc) are first of all still in the box and once we take them out no I'm not washing them.
