Is one option safer than the other for someone who would like to get pregnant after surgery? I was considering the lap band, since it can be drained while pregnancy, but I have heard horror stories from friends and family about band slippage, leaking etc, and worry this can cause a problem if I become pregnant. I have a consultation on the 15th to discuss with a nurse from my insurance, then choosing s doctor (insurance approves NSLIJ or Winthrop)
Also, has anyone had to register through Bariatric Resource Services through their insurance in order to get approved? I would love to hear first hand stories of this process.

I had the 3rd option, the bypass 8/2011 and I got pregnant 7/2013 and had no complications. My OB said he noticed that woman who had that surgery seemed to do very well during pregnancy. Feel free to PM me.

I had roux-en-y Gastric Bypass back in 2002. I inquired then about pregnancy and was told that it would not be a problem at all. I lost 300 pounds as the result of my surgery. It was not until 2011 that I got pregnant. My OB did not do anything different for me. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

What about the gastric sleeve? I was told to wait 18 mo before and after childbirth to have it done. However, a friend of mine had the sleeve in June 2014 and got pregnant Dec/Jan. Baby is running small she says. Can't tell you about delivery until September.
