Does anyone have experience with sepsis?
My close friend's DH had surgery yesterday (I think to fix a slipped lap-band) and he was still in a ton of pain today so they did exploratory surgery, found a hole in his stomach and he was septic.
He will be in the hospital for at least a week on heavy antibiotics, is that typical? I am so nervous for him, I have never heard anything positive regarding sepsis...

He will likely be there for longer than a week. Sepsis is a very serious infection. Everyone I know who had sepsis took the better part of a month and a half to two months to get rid of it. Where was the hole? Is this another case of a torn intestine?

Does anyone have experience with sepsis?
My dad had it after he had a hole in his intestine and had emergency surgery. He ended up in a coma for 14 days. He pulled through but has not been well since. I will be praying.

The hole was in his stomach, it's been repaired but the infection is dangerously close to his lungs apparently He's awake and on a lot of pain meds in addition to antibiotics, just a waiting game now.

Re: Does anyone have experience with sepsis?
I don't know the specifics behind everything, but I know my DHs grandmother ended up with sepsis and ended up on a feeding tube, and stayed in the hospital for over 2 months and then to a rehab facility. She did go in with very bad health, she has an auto immune disease. But I remember it being very serious and taking a very long time for recovery. Saying a pray for your friends DH!

Does anyone have experience with sepsis?
My mom was admitted To the hospital In February because she became septic in the house. She had a seizure, turned blue in the face and lost focus completely. They managed to get in under control, and she was in the hospital almost 2 weeks before she was sent home. It was a UTI that set it off, and they placed a stent in.
Upon going back to the hospital to have the stent removed 2 weeks later, she fell back into sepsis and was re admitted for another week and a half.
My FIL fell septic last summer and was in the hospital for almost a month. It affects everyone differently but all the same, it's a scary and horrible experience.

Does anyone have experience with sepsis?
My mom had an intestinal tear and was septic and in really bad shape. She was so swollen and in so much pain. The doctor said she would not have made it if she didn't get to the hospital when she did. She had emergency surgery to remove the torn portion and had a colostomy bag for about 8 months. She then had it reversed, and is fine now.
She still has to watch what she eats, and things upset her stomach easily.

Re: Does anyone have experience with sepsis?
A few years ago my uncle was admitted to the hospital for a uti and was found to be septic (I don't know specifics). He was on heavy antibiotics for two weeks I think, and made a full recovery. He was over 70 at the time.

It's very serious. My mother had it twice. The second time she didn't make it. He will most likely been the hospital for a couple of weeks at least. Praying for a quick and full recovery.

Does anyone have experience with sepsis?
My husband has had it, more than once. Basically he was on heavy duty IV antibotics for well over 2 weeks in the hospital and then came home with a PIC line so he could continue the IV antibotics at home. Not a fun experience...

My Mother and Father both had it and both recovered, though I think it does weaken your body a lot.

Re: Does anyone have experience with sepsis?
Thank you all for your input. I am hoping they found out more today, though I hate to be a bother, but I am dying to know that he will be okay. We met them up here in Canada and they are just the greatest people
