A Luteal Phase Question

According to OPK I O'd on CD14, and AF came on Day "25"

11 days - is this considered exceptionally short? I don't know when I "normally" ovulate, but I've always had a 24 day cycle, and this month seems no different.

Started taking B6, but not sure if 11 days is TERRIBLE. Thoughts? Help? Chat Icon I've had 4 very sad TTC months Chat Icon

Re: A Luteal Phase Question

You may scroll down and see some of my posts from about a month or so ago on the same thing. I had a luteal phase of 8 and 9 days when I started tracking. So 11 days is way better even to start off. I started taking B-100 Complex (which has the right balance of B6 and B12) and Vitex, an herb that was suggeste to help as well. My phase was 9 days in June/July and I never found out what my phase improved to in JulyAugust because I got my BFP! So it definitely does work.

I honestly don't think 11 days is terrible because I was told you need at least 10 to even have a chance of implantation so I was completely out with 8-9 days. I think it's still possible to get pregnant with 11 days but I think B6 will definitely help you make it longer too.

Ty! I will look into the things you suggested! I had no idea TTC was going to be so emotionally draining. Ugh.

What everyone told me is that a luteal phase is an easy fix. So keep that in mind!

Re: A Luteal Phase Question

I wouldn't say it's exceptionally short. I think less than 10 days is more of a concern. My LP is 11 days and I was able to get pregnant on my own. Hope this helps!

A Luteal Phase Question

if your opk was positive on 14, you didn't ovulate until 24-48 after that, so 15 or 16. Your luteal phase is 10 days or less, which could pose an issue. The average person will implant around day 9 or 10, which means you won't have enough HCG produced to help the baby "stick."

I ovulate on day 16 and AF comes on day 28. Because I only have about 2-3 days after implanting to build up enough progesterone and hcg levels to help it stick, I miscarry. My doctor is giving me progesterone this cycle.

ETA: reading it back, i sound kind of negative lol... this is not a bad issue to have, as many people have it! It's super easy to fix- just talk to your doctor about getting a progesterone cream maybe

11 days is normal. Anything over 10 is fine.

Re: A Luteal Phase Question

I don't have personal experience with this, but my cousin and best friend both have short luteal phases. They both had a little difficulty conceiving (not a lot) - both of them, by month 5 or 6 of trying, went to their doctor and were given an rx of something designd to prolong the luteal phase. Both went on to conceive right away, and they each had a second child as well.

A Luteal Phase Question

Mine is 11 days. DD1 took 2.5 years to conceive and DD2 took one night. I don't think the 11 day LP had anything to do with either one.

Re: A Luteal Phase Question

My lp was also 11 days. I got pregnant 3 times on my own, the first pregnancy ended in mc. I have a 2 yo DD and I'm currently 6 months pregnant with #2. It took me 4 months to get pregnant the first time, 9 months to get pregnant after the mc, then for this pregnancy it took 6 months. Hang in there. Your lp shouldn't be a problem.

Re: A Luteal Phase Question

The B6 will help, but from what I have read it's better if it's taken in conjunction with "support" vitamins so I always took a b-complex vitamin. My LP was anywhere from 7-9 days and I was able to extend it to 10+ and after that got pregnant very easily with my 2.

Your LP is the time from when you ovulate to when your period begins. If you're LP is short, then you are probably ovulating late. The easiest way to figure this out is to track ovulation using an OPK. I used wondfos and found them to be easy to read and accurate, though I know not everyone really likes them. HTH!
