"Opting Out"...
Has anybody sent in their letters?
Is it something I should do now?

I did...I also opted my children out of SLO testing, so I needed to be sure they were received before any benchmark testing.

My children aren't in testing grades but I think the sooner the better. I am also a teacher and I know it got crazy last year with people calling, giving letters the day before and even that day. The more the better, but earlier can help make it easier on the school so they know what they are up against.

Thank you for posting this. I wanted to opt my DD out this year, but didn't know that I should be doing it this soon!
I've done some research, and I truly feel like it's the right thing to do. But... I'm nervous, and I don't know why lol!!! This would be the first year she is opting out.

I've done some research, and I truly feel like it's the right thing to do. But... I'm nervous, and I don't know why lol!!! This would be the first year she is opting out.
I'm a teacher but I am first and foremost a mom and I totally understand the nervousness! It's because typically in school, we are expected to do what we are told, take exams the teacher gives us etc. Maybe it feels funny because of that. This is a totally different scenario now. It's so much bigger than just saying no to a test. It's really taking a stand.

Yes, I think this is definitely it. I am such a rule follower, always have been! I was that annoying goody two shoes in high school that wouldn't cut class, wouldn't drink, etc etc  But you are right, this is taking a stand. It just feels so foreign to me... like they are going to call me into the principal's office and yell at me or something! Clearly I'm a loser and I need therapy lol 
Question: Who do I turn the letter in to? Do I give it to the teacher? Mail it to the school? The superintendent? If I mail it, does it have to be certified? I really have no clue how to go about doing this!
And... it really won't hurt the teacher if I opt her out? We really like her teacher and don't want to do anything to hurt her...

I am a teacher and I can tell you that I am opting out my own child. Do not worry about it hurting the teacher. It won't. The damage these tests are doing to education is insane and this is really the only way to send a message. You have every legal right to opt your child out. Send your letter to the principal and a copy to the teacher. I know that for me, it was very informative to see which of my students had opted out and how many were still taking it. Mail your letter or hand it to the principal. If you mail, you may want to have them sign for it if you are concerned they will "lose" it. It all depends on how supportive your district is.

I feel like if enough people opt out and do so continously, it will actually HELP the teacher in the long run.
I wish everyone would. Ww need to send a unified message that we have the right to not stand for this
