Embryo genetic testing
has anyone ever done ivf and had genetic testing on the embryos? I am almost 42 and because of my age and my decision that I would only want to implant 1 egg to avoid multiples that was what was recommended to me. Also if you did this, who was your RE? TIA.

Embryo genetic testing
I think most REs do this now. I didn't have it done but it's fairly common.
Just as an aside insurance usually doesn't cover the genetic testing...only a point if you are using insurance to pay for your cycle. Good luck!

Re: Embryo genetic testing
I didn't do PGD because i was not a candidate since my embryos never made it past day five. However, had they made it that far i definitely would've done it. It definitely makes a difference when choosing which embryo you would implant. Most REs do this and it isn't covered about 5k.

Re: Embryo genetic testing
Our 13 cycle we decided to test the embryos. I would only do it after failed cycles unless you have the money for it. I only also trust certain labs with the test. I am at RMAnew Jersey. There lab is top notch so I was ok w testing the embryos. needless to say, I did get pregnant w donor egg / ccs tested embryo and pregnancy ended at 20 weeks when no heart beat was found. Baby had tetraploidy. chromosome abnormality. So although the test is great to rule out certain abnormalities, it doesn't rule out everything. I didn't test with my first donor cycle 2 years ago and have a beautiful healthy son from that round:) good luck:)) oh and please understand that if they do the testing , they automatically do ICSI which I was opposed to but we needed emergency icsi the day of retrieval which is why we chose to do the testing.

I was not aware of this. Was considering genetic testing but was not told. Do you know if all labs require icsi if doing genetic testing? and do you know why it requires it?

Just curious why you were opposed to ICSI. It seems like it explained as a good thing. An IVF video Long Island IVF told us to watch said they automatically do ICSI if you are over 38.

Im with RMA of PA and if you do the PGD testing (which runs about 6K out of pocket) they automatically do ICSI method.

Embryo genetic testing
So far every dr I have seen. 3 different ones over the years will always do icsi with Pgd. Check insurance because I was shocked to find out mine coveted it.

Embryo genetic testing
The reason that ICSI is required is because there might be sperm cell bodies that adhere to the outside of the embryo with standard fertilization. They pose no threat to the embryo, but their DNA can contaminate the cell biopsied for PGD, rendering your results invalid.
