Teen therapist recommendation?

Hi-I am mom of a 16 year old who is out of control as far as not listening, angry all the time etc. I am not sure if this is normal teen issues but I believe we all need some help at this point as I am unsure what to do.

Does anyone have any recommendations that would share?

I am in East Northport but will travel for someone great.

I don't have a rec, but maybe ask your pediatrician. My nephew went through something like this a few years ago and my SIL took him to one. It was a struggle to get him to go in the beginning. My nephew was being a rotten brat and I really felt for my SIL because he was treating her like shit all the time! She was at her wits end.

It did take 2 therapists though before they found the right fit. He hated the first one. Said the guy was stupid and didn't listen. She actually agreed. Tried a second one and he felt like the person was bored and kept staring out the window. The third he finally clicked with. He went to therapy a little over a year. It changed their life. He learned how to talk to her differently and cope with different situations better.

Your dc's school (either social worker, guidance counselor, or psychologist) would also have good recommendations in your area.

thanks but honestly-I feel as the less the school knows the better. I don't want him to get a mark on his back. Thank you though for the responses. Everyone kept telling me teen years can be rough-holey!
