Winthrop hospital & private single room
I am delivering there next month and want to do what I must to get a completely private room. Last time I ended up sharing on my last night. I want to avoid that this time and will ask for a single room. If you requested one, who did you speak to? Is it something my OB would prearrange or I would? I'm having a scheduled cs, so it is something I could technically do.

Re: Winthrop hospital & private single room
i was put into a shared room.. i had constant guests the first day.. we asked for a private room when anyone walked in to check on me lol! we also asked for a cot for my dh before we knew were changing rooms. we were so friendly with everyone who came in (they are the NICEST staff ever).. so im not usre if they just liked us or felt bad for the lady sharing our room because of our visitors but they moved us that first day. ' good luck!

Re: Winthrop hospital & private single room
I was told there is nothing you can do to control the situation. I asked in advance, offered to pay for it, and mentioned it to a few people before we were taken from the delivery room. Once upstairs we were put into a shared room, that was across from the maternity ward. Apparently maternity was full... so the rooms were even SMALLER in this section. I was told some women were waiting in the HALL the night before for anything to open up -- shared or private at that point. So i think it is luck -- if you deliver on a slow night they will do their best to give you the private space. If not, you will get stuck with what they have.
Edited to add: DH went home that night. There was no where for him to be. Even the chair they gave us was against the wall and bed in a way you could barely move to get in and out. Also, the bathroom I shared was tiny, and didnt have a shower. If you wanted to shower you could do so in the hall bathroom.

Re: Winthrop hospital & private single room
I delivered by C-section at the end of May. I had my own huge room (at the end of the hall - tons of windows and my own shower and bathroom) for 3 nights. I think it was just good luck though.

That's what it is sounding like. I will just keep asking when I get there. I will keep fingers crossed the private rooms are available.

Re: Winthrop hospital & private single room
We asked and there was nothing they could do. I had to share a room with someone for a few hours before they moved me to a private room.
ETA I also had a c section so I don't think that matters, it is whatever they have available.

Re: Winthrop hospital & private single room
I had requested I believe through my OB and the staff on the floor. I did pay for it although I don't remember how much as it was 5 years ago.

Re: Winthrop hospital & private single room
You can't do anything. My ob put a request in after he missed my delivery (I progressed too quick and he felt terrible.) because they had one that was available they did. That was in May. Most rooms were singles also because it was quiet, but there were no bed chairs for my husband! With my son two and half years ago I had double to myself. I told them I wanted my hubs to stay so they put me lower on list (they claimed). They said they make every room single before doubling. However last week my friend had to share because she said it was so full!

Re: Winthrop hospital & private single room
My labor nurse got me my own room. It didn't seem like an issue at all. It was really small but private.

Re: Winthrop hospital & private single room
I had my daughter there 2.5 years ago and had a huge private room with my own shower and bathroom. I did t have to ask for a private room. From what I understand, as long as they are not over crowded, they give you your own room.

Re: Winthrop hospital & private single room
I had a unique story in that I was in a L&D room for 2 days before they even moved me to maternity. Then when I got moved, they put me in a shared room because there was a snow storm that week and apparently they were booked solid. At first there was no one else in the room with me, so it wasn't that bad. Unfortunately, the second night, I was given a roommate who seemed to have a relatively easy delivery (she was up walking all around and I was basically bed-ridden due to a csection), and she had her baby in the room with her (my DD was in the NICU). And to top it all off, she and her family didn't even speak any English, so it wasn't even like I could talk to them. It was kind of awful, but it only lasted about a day or two and then I went home.
I'll be going back to Winthrop for this baby, and I'll request a private room (especially if I have another csection), but they can't guarantee anything - it all depends on how many deliveries there are that day.

Winthrop hospital & private single room
Winthrop policy is around $250 a night for private room if available. Otherwise their regular rooms they will try and not give you a roommate but depends on how many they have.
My first time I had to share a room. Second two I had my own by chance

Winthrop hospital & private single room
My labor nurse got us a private room when I delivered my daughter... I think she felt so bad the complications I had my previous pregnancy and the complications after i had my dd. I'd say best bed is talk to you labor nurse or after delivery nurse. They put the call in to find out what rooms are available. Good luck!
