Baby's heartbeat, is this a crazy idea?
I have my 16 week drs appointment today and I know it's not a sonogram just checking the baby's heartbeat and the basic vitals.
Has anyone ever asked their doctor if they could record the babies heart beat on their phone? I am assuming it would work because my phone picks up even the slightest whisper.
I just don't know if the doctor will think I am a crazy person for asking.
I just thought it would be something nice to play for my husband since he can not attend the appointment.

Not crazy at all!! I asked at the last appointment, but I couldn't because it was the NT scan. They had a no photo/video policy for whatever reason.
But I planned to ask the same thing the next appointment.

i wasn't allowed to record. however, at the end of my pregnancy when they did the weekly non stress tests, they left the heart rate on pretty loud and i recorded it with my phone.

Cool! I meant to ask if you did or not. Did they offer to tell you the gender? If you didn't already know...
I never had the blood test and I'll be 17 weeks at my next appointment and I'm hoping to find out then.

Well i always told my doctor from our very first meeting that DH and I didnt want to find out the gender, but while she was performing the sonogram i asked her if she was able to tell the sex and she said yes!
My next appt is for week 20 NT scan, but I'm staying team green Good luck.

You are stronger than I am!! I am dyingggg to know!
But you totally made my day- my 30th birthday is the week after the appointment and finding out the gender would just be the best birthday present. Now let's just hope baby cooperates!
ETA: And good luck at your next scan! I loved how in-depth the NT scan was and that was only 12 weeks. Your baby is gonna be bouncing around in there!

My doctor actually told me to get out my phone and take video the first time I went in without DH so that I could show him. Hopefully they will allow you to take video!

Re: Baby's heartbeat, is this a crazy idea?
DH couldn't make one of the first appointments and it was killing him so I asked my doctor if he would be ok with me videotaping the sonogram and was so happy I did. He was able to see the sono and hear the heartbeat.

Re: Baby's heartbeat, is this a crazy idea?
my sono tech used to make me dvds of my actual sono. I had this done a few times. this is actually how I told some of my famiy and friends I was pregnant. I told them I was putting my wedding video in the dvd player and instead I put the sono dvd in!

Baby's heartbeat, is this a crazy idea?
I did last year at stony brook obgyn. They didn't have a problem with it. Id did a voice memo record for the 10 seconds or so that they listened.

We were allowed to record DD HB at the RE office but DS we have not been allowed. DH is very upset. As long as the let you go for it.

Re: Baby's heartbeat, is this a crazy idea?
Can I ask why they wouldn't allow it?
Is your child's heartbeat a copyrighted sound that nobody can record like you're at some Broadway show? ' That sounds insane to me.
I'd probably hide an already recording cell phone in my purse in the room with me. Screw them

I thought it was weird, too. I went to a different place for my NT scan and they had the no video/photo policy. They even had signs posted on the walls. No idea why.
That's why I'm going to try at my next regular appointment at my OB's office. I can't imagine her having a problem with it.

Re: Baby's heartbeat, is this a crazy idea?
Get a fetal Doppler. I got one for $30 and listen to baby's heartbeat every night. I took a bunch of videos on my phone.

What kind did you get? And how far along were you when you started using it? I did look into it, but they seemed expensive and had mixed reviews. And I don't want to not be able to find the heartbeat and scare the sh!t outta myself, KWIM?

Re: Baby's heartbeat, is this a crazy idea?
I recorded my 12-week sono on video. I asked the tech and she said many people do it. She turned up the volume so the heartbeat was nice and clear on the video.

I got Sonoline B fetal Doppler off ebay. i started using it around 15 weeks and have found the heartbeat pretty easily each time. Depending on babys position it could be harder to find at times. I was so surprised how well it works.
