What would you do if your SN child was...

hit in the head by another child who has issues with self control and was acting inappropriately in class and cracked heads with your child who was just sitting?

Keep in mind, your child has medical special needs and the other child likely has issues with self control? How would you approach this or would you "let it go"?

No real injury occurred but could the next time (2 other small incidents have happened previously with this child lacking physical self control)?

I would ask that the children not be seated together anymore and that the aide to make sure they were never in a position where you child could be touched again. Even though all the children in class may have different special needs, the adults in the classroom need to ensure that each child is safe and secure.

Happened on a rug, not at desks. There is NO aide in the room (it's a general ed class with pullouts for services). I want to be rational but I am getting pretty pissed and trying to make sure I am being reasonable.

Sorry I just assumed you were in a special ed class because you posted on this board. In a General Ed classroom I would immediately contact the principal and make a paper trail and I would still insist that the child is not placed by yours either on the rug, in line or sitting in class. If they can not honor that then they will need to provide an aide for the class.

I would write/email a letter CCing the teacher, principal and special Ed director regarding your significant concerns for your child's safely and well being. I would state the frequency of occurances and that clearly this student is having trouble functioning independently in this setting and clearly needs closer supervision to monitor the health/safety of other students in the classroom. You are not over reacting. A safe classroom environment is a #1 concern. I'm sure the teacher would appreciate more support in the classroom for this student as well...
