I have a good friend that has been with 2 people in her life and has genital herpes. Ugh.
This is so incredibly unfortunate.
I don't know what is worse - the herpes or the only being with two people. And I'm not being smug!
Why would only being with 2 people be bad?
Yeah I don't get it either.

Yes! My obgyn joined the LIJnorth shore system last year & that question is on their form as well as Do you have sex with ..Men ..Women
The first time I went to the gyn when I was 18 I told her I wanted to go on the pill for birth control. One of her follow up questions was "is your partner male or female?"

Maybe the guys before just weren't good in bed I haven't had many partners but once you find someone phenomenonal - be it first , second, whatever ~ you're set for life.
It's more sad to try out a bunch who are sub par or down right bad, if you ask me. And I'm not being smug, either!

Re: How Many Partners? on doctor's form!!
Should I cut and paste my response from page one?
Ahh - why bother.
I SAID, there's nothing wrong with that for anyone but me. I love sex. I'm not saying I'm Wilt Chamberlain but I certainly need more than two partners in a lifetime.
And good point above about the first two sucking real bad bc they did! But either way I like variety -- alllllll types of people. So, others can do whatever works for them but for me? I like variety and a lot of it - it's the spice of life :)
And my current flame is beyond beyond BEYONDDDD the best I have ever had. I will say, right now, I can't imagine ever tiring of him or needing more. And that's a lot for me, a free spirit who loves sex more than anything on the planet, to say!

Re: How Many Partners? on doctor's form!!
I forgot about the "do you have sex with men /women / both "question on there also - thanks for reminding me about that one :) I also had to list details of my kids names, DOB etc which I have never done before so I guess our group must have been acquired by a bigger group that needs to know more about me...sorry folks..I am pleading the fifth because I don't see it relevant to my care. They have ran tests for STD's before so knowing how many partners I have been with in my liftetime so far is not going to change that.

How Many Partners? on doctor's form!!
Its more about risk assessment- sure, you can have 1 partner and get 4 STDs from them, but your RISK of that being the case is low, the more partners you've had the higher the risk . Is it big brother? Sure! But so are 90% of the questions on the forms you fill out at a doctors office. Plus, with LIJ, it's a teaching hospital/system, I wouldn't be surprised if they used the data (not associating personal information) for statistical purposes.

They cannot use your information for a study without informed consent-you have to actually agree to participate in any type of study and sign a written consent form.

I was dating someone who was phenomenal in the bed. We had a great connection in the bedroom. Too bad we didn't in every other aspect of our relationship. Took me a long time to walk away from that sex Eventually I told myself...no d!ck is worth all that

Well... Yes and no.... Informed consent has more to do with the personal information and HIPAA related information. But raw numbers - ex : % of people who have had 3 or more partners and have xyz STDs can be used without consent.

How Many Partners? on doctor's form!!
i believe the number of partners also not only goes to risk of STDs but also to the likelihood of cervical cancer. so there is a reason to ask that question.

The risk of cervical cancer is increased by HPV which is an STD that you can catch even if you only have one partner your whole life. EVERYONE should be and is tested for HPV at routine gyn visits. So again the actual number of partners has no bearing on that. ..just being sexually active at all means you should be tested. 1 partner or 100.

Re: How Many Partners? on doctor's form!!
I have never seen the question but I deal with medical records for work and I have seen all sorts of things marked as "declined." Sometimes it may be the answer to a question and sometimes it's a procedure. I've noticed it's often what's noted for a rectal exam .

i have not seen this either but I do ask my 18 and under pts at what age they became sexual active, how many partners they have had in the last 12 months, and if they have vaginal, anal oral or all.

How Many Partners? on doctor's form!!
Sorry, but I do question why anyone in a gyno's office would find this a silly question. Regardless of all of the humorous remarks, there IS a medical reason for them asking this. Really, no judgement whatsoever and I really do find many of these comments quite witty. Whether some of you "get it" or not, this kind of info. DOES help your medical provider (one who should also not pass judgement.) Whether you believe it or not, the more partners you have been with DOES increase your odds of STD's. To me, it shows responsible questions related to whatever shows up in your paps. Think about your now young daughters ladies, this is information that one day you may be pissed if not asked.

While I agree that multiple partners puts you at a higher risk for STD's, they won't skip certain tests just because someone has only had 1 or 2 partners. The normal testing is still performed regardless of the amount of partners you've had. So no, they do not need to know how many partners. They just need to know if you're sexually active. Also, not all doctors routinely test for STD's. I know with my doctor, I have to specifically request it.

That was my point. Of course multiple partners increases your risks, but a doctor should be just as concerned if you have had 1 partner vs 100 partners. Either way, precautions and testing are needed. They don't need to know a specific number.
