Thoughts on babymooning at 28 weeks?

I really want to plan a babymoon to either Punta Cana or St. Maarten (we can fly and stay for free on points).

I haven't spoken to my doctor yet but MLK weekend works for us and I'll be just about 28 weeks. Is it too risky to book travel for that time?

Also, if anyone has stayed at the Westin in Punta Cana, please let me know if you have feedback! I stayed the Westin in St. Maarten before and liked it but would love to go somewhere different.

We will be going to Disney when I'm around 27 weeks. Not babymooning more like DDs last trip as an only child. As long as my doctor OKs it I don't see an issue.

If I were you I would ABSOLUTELY go on a babymoon with your doctors permission however I wouldn't go to Punta Cana. While the resorts in Punta Cana are beautiful the area surrounding it is very poverty ridden and the health care is very questionable.

I would find an island that has a better healthcare system.

Just check with the doctor but I think it'll be fine. We've been to the Excellence in Punta Cana, and just came back from our babymoon at the Excellence in Cancun. We're huge fans of that resort and HIGHLY recommend it!

Me too. But I'm pretty paranoid about overseas travel when it comes to health care.
They build these beautiful resorts in these god forsaken countries and God forbid you need healthcare- forget it

My OB is fine with travel at that point but would like it to be somewhere with a well developed hospital system. If you ran into an issue in Punta Cana would be be comfortable being treated in a hospital there? Maybe somewhere like Florida or something would be better?

There are some amazing, relaxing resorts in Florida that I would totally recommend if you want to stay in the states

I would stay in the US as well.

There are some nice Starwood resorts in FL and CA - and I really like the Westin in Scottsdale, AZ - very nice and relaxing.

Sandpearl Resort in Clearwater is hands down my favorite. Rivals the Ritz or Four Seasons in service, amenities, etc. Beautiful, and just amazing on every single level.

Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne (about 30 min for Miami) also amazing

Canyon Ranch resort and spa in Miami was also pretty great

But I keep coming back to wanting to go back to the Sandpearl.
I can't seem to find anything that rivals it to try next!

Thoughts on babymooning at 28 weeks?

Okay thanks all! I didn't even think of that regarding health care.

I will try to find a hotel we can use with points in the states. We go to the Miami area often (will be there later this month for Thanksgiving) so are trying to avoid going right back there a month later, but maybe we can go somewhere else---maybe somewhere in CA?

And I'm pretty set on using Starwoods points so a lot of the options suggested above are out---I will see what I can find with Starwoods outside of Florida!

28 weeks is fine! You should check with your OB either way, but it shouldn't be an issue. To be safe, travel with a letter from your OB stating you're in good health and approved to fly, along with your due date.

I flew to London at a little less than that. For work, not fun, but it wasn't a problem. Just get up and walk every hour during the flight and drink a TON of water to stay hydrated.

When I was pregnant with my DD in the spring of 2013, I booked a trip to St Martin. I got as far as the hotel but no plane tickets. I also was talked out of it and got nervous if I would need to see a dr or go to the hospital.

I'm still so sad about it because I've always wanted to go. One day.

I think Arizona sounds great or how about San Diego/southern CA.

Thoughts on babymooning at 28 weeks?

I went to St Martin when I was 29 wks, maybe even 30 wks 2 yrs ago. We actually just brought DD there in july. It was great however, I remember the water was a little rough where we were, by airport next to Sonesta hotel, but just went to maho bay and it was perfect!

I am horrible at drinking water in general, so I really had to put an effort to keep hydrated... but def important!! Couldn't even have any frozen virgin goodness, had gestational diabetes!!! Whomp whomp, but overall a great trip! MUCH different than the one with the baby!!! lol.

I booked a trip & flight & then had to change it to within the U.S. after I had an unpredicted complication with my pregnancy.

IMO, it is important to be somewhere with a great hospital once baby is viable.

We went to Naples... Which was actually amazing!

Thoughts on babymooning at 28 weeks?

My doctor was comfortable with me going on a trip to Puerto Rico at 32 weeks pregnant. He said he was most comfortable with PR because it was better healthcare than a place like DR or even Aruba. However, I am very glad we got trip insurance because I am supposed to go next week and we had to cancel because I was diagnosed with gestational hypertension and can no longer travel. :(

Yes! We are now adding PR and US Virgin Islands to our search since it may not be that warm in AZ or CA when we go. I'm sorry you had to cancel but it's good you did have insurance. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

Be careful with trip insurance... All the ones I checked out excluded pregnancy complications!

I'd also stay in the US. I'm always nervous traveling abroad between the questionable food, healthcare, safety, etc. I'm bad enough just me and DH not pregnant!
