Anyone have a successful VBAC with Trongone or Petrocelli?
Hi Everyone, I'm in the process of trying to select a new OB since moving to LI. I met Dr. Petrocelli last night and expressed my preference to try for a VBAC with baby number 2. I liked him a lot but didn't get the sense that he was overly supportive and he actually said that if my number 1 goal for this pregnancy is to deliver vaginally, I might want to talk to Jessica Jacob. It is not my be all and end all, but given the chance, I would like to try for it. Anyone have any past VBAC experiences with either Trongone or Petrocelli to share? TIA!

Anyone have a successful VBAC with Trongone or Petrocelli?
What hospital are they affiliated with?
Historically, the hospitals with the highest VBAC rates have been NUMC in East Meadow and University Hospital in Stony Brook. They happen in other hospitals too, but not as frequently - partly because of the affiliated providers, and partly because of hospital philosophy. The NYS Dept of Health publishes data re: VBAC rates on their website.

Anyone have a successful VBAC with Trongone or Petrocelli?
They are my drs, but I never had a c-section. They are all about getting baby out as safe as possible and they really will push you into what they think is safest. I absolutely love them and trust them 100%, but no experience with a VBAC.

Trongone delivered all three of mine safely via c-section.
He let me "try" for a v-bac for my second but when he told me my cervix was re-thickening I told him to just do the section.
He is not a big proponent for v-bacs BUT he is a great doctor and surgeon - i had very easy recoveries for my sections.
The other doctor delivered my two healthy nephes via section.

They have privileges at North Shore...thanks so much for the info on the VBAC rates. Super helpful!

Everyone seems to absolutely love them, which is why I literally lost sleep last night. I went in there assuming it would be a no-brainer to join their practice, but I walked away wondering if I already had 'repeat C-section' stamped on my forehead

Would love to hear what your conversations were like with him regarding the option to VBAC, since unfortunately I was only able to meet with Petrocelli...

This may be true, but I had a VBAC at LIJ Katz and they were very supportive. I had a planned repeat section but went into labor early. When I got to the hospital and told the nurses I wanted to try the VBAC they were all so supportive of my decision. And to be honest? The VBAC was a breeze.

I am so glad you posted this. I see them and my first was a CS after a failed induction, which I actaully regret doing in the first place (I and baby looked perfectly healthy at 41 + 1)..They did not push for CS, I actually asked for it.....I think for the next I would like to try for a VBAC though. Perhaps I will look into Jessica Jacops. I have heard from some nurse friends at NSUH that Petrocelli is very risk averse while Trongone is not so much so....Perhaps it is worth having a conversation with him, although I am not sure they can gaurantee who will deliver you the day of....

I used Women for Women. Highly recommend them, actually.

bunnyluck, unfortunately, Trongone has been in Hong Kong for the entire month of November. I was really hoping to meet him, but you are right- there is no way to guaranteed who will be in the delivery room. The thing that is stressing me out is that when you look at all of the different websites where people post reviews for doctors, the only docs I've found who don't have any negative reviews are Trongone/Petrocelli. Take a look at the feedback on Jessica Jacob- some good, some awful. I know people can have their own motivations for posting things, but the fact that those 2 don't have ANY negative reviews has to mean something, right? At the end of the day, if they won't support my wishes, though, I guess they are still not the docs for me.

That doesn't surprise me that they have stellar reviews. They honestly are both really great. I like their office and staff too. They are just nice, normal people and never rush you or make you feel uncomfortable..And (ETA) Dr. Trongone *kind of* looks like and reminds me a Mr. Big from Sex and The City hahaha, so ridicuous - but I think that has a factor....
To me, it's not that typical doctor's office environment....
But agreed, if you are determined to try for a VBAC you should find a doctor that is 100% supportive. I am sure there are plenty out there.I have an appointment in December with Trongone and will have to ask him about it... But I honestly don't think I am a good candidate for a VBAC anyway from what I have read about it.

They are my doctors (but Petrocelli wasn't in the practice yet when I delivered). Trongone was super supportive of a vbac (I had twins via csection prior) for my 3rd. The only thing he told me is they won't induce, so if I went past my due date, it was automatic csection. But he said if I went to labor on my own, as long as I was ok and baby was ok, he was ok with vbac.
Well I went a day past my due date and no labor and I had a c section. Still had a great experience. As it turns out my lining was so thin under my csection scar, it would've torn in labor so he said it was a blessing for me it happened this way.
I love both of them (obviously have know Trongone longer) and would completely trust them, so you definitely have to feel comfortable with whichever dr you choose. Good luck!
