Re: Another hostage situation
Scares me to death. We are going into the city soon to see the tree, the windows, Macys Santa and the Christmas Spectacular and Im TERRIFIED! Im not going to lie, I literally tear up every time I think about it and Im not normally an anxious person. I don't know what to do, I don't want them to steal the magic of christmas, especially christmas in NY from my children, so we are going, but Im so scared.

Is anyone else feeling extremely anxious about this? I don't even want to walk into a store. I went shopping yesterday with my baby and I just kept looking around at who else was in the store. I know we can't live like this but I feel an attack is so likely and I'm scared to be there.
I went to go see the Hunger Games last night. There weren't a lot of people at the theater. A guy peeked his head in and left (I'm assuming an usher) and I started to panic.
We were going to take my son to see the balloons in the city the day before Thanksgiving and I told my husband I wanted to hold off.
I suffer from anxiety as well.

Another hostage situation
It's a scary world but I refuse to live in fear and let those assholes win. I don't go into the city often at all but I wouldn't hesitate. That's just my nature though.

Re: Another hostage situation
I guess because I live in Manhattan and have to get around and go to work, I'm not that afraid. I mean, reading this message board makes me wonder if I'm crazy or not not to worry so much!
I'll be watching the balloons being blown up because my apartment is 2 streets away and I've always been out of town the night before Thanksgiving--I'm really excited about going for the first time. I also go through Times Square and Grand Central on a daily basis and see so much heightened security that it makes me feel a bit more secure.

To add to my post now that I think about it more-
I'm less scared that something like this is going to happen here than sending my kids to school or going to a mall and getting shot by some crazy local lunatic. Now that terrifies me. But again, we have to keep on living life.

Re: Another hostage situation
I'll be honest that I'm really freaked out too. When 9/11 happened, I was in grad school in upstate NY and was a bit removed from it even though it also hit me very hard and I had just been working in the city prior to starting school.
I've been to Paris and I so feel for the victims and their families. Just out enjoying a Friday night. I can't imagine.
I think what gets me the most is that I'm a mom and I have two beautiful, innocent children. I'm terrified of something happening to them and to DH and I as well and leaving them motherless. I actually said to DH last week, and I was sobbing, like couldn't even speak initially, that if something were to happen to me that he would promise to continue to raise our children near my parents with their help and to also raise and take them to church.
I will be returning to the city for work after my maternity leave and am dreading it knowing it's a target and having to take the train, subways. How has this become the world we live in?
