Re: Would you go the Times Square area with your child/ren this weekend? POLL
i dont have a child, but I dont feel safe. I was in Eataly last weekend and my bf looked uneasy so I asked him what was up. He said he was looking for all the exits from where we were sitting in case something happened. I was really uncomfortable.
If you dont have to, dont.

Honestly I would not. I'm uneasy enough being out in public here on the island.
Eta - I do the same as pp in movies. And I tell my kids I love them about ten times at school drop off :( I hate this world.

I try to avoid going to Times Square regardless of what's going on in the world because I hate tourists and selfie sticks.
But since I think you mean from a safety perspective yes, I would go. It wouldn't occur to me not to. My DH works 3 blocks from there and he's not quitting his job. I'm a NYer, no one is going to keep me out of my home.

Same, i would go.
I went to Billy Joel last night, it never occured to me not to. They had metal detectors up and it took us 45 minutes just to get into MSG.
IF you go youre just going to see a lot of cops around.

I don't know.
I would have no problem going myself. However I don't know if I would take my grandkids if they lived here. Something about having kids with me that would stress me out. So no I most likely would not take kids there right now.
I will say though that security is very high. I went to Macys a few nights ago and cops everywhere!

I would go if you are going to go to certain spots (like the M&M store). But to go just to roam around, I would not. I just can't stomach all that goes on

The city right now is as safe as it ever will be. There are cops everywhere. They will never be able to stop everything but right now if be more afraid of the normal crazy people than a terrorist.
I work above grand central. I have not felt unsafe ever in NYC. I would go anywhere

Re: Would you go the Times Square area with your child/ren this weekend? POLL
I was actually going to take the kids into see the tree this December but I'd be lying if I said I'm not nervous about it. So much so that I'm actually considering NOT going, with everything going on I think I'd just feel safer staying out of the city right now with all those crazy crowds. I'm not usually a worrier but in light of what has been going on in the world I find myself a little more nervous lately to take my kids anywhere.

They stopped a man swinging a samurai sword inside the midtown Apple Store. Seems like things are as normal as always
Id be more worried about crazies like that than a terrorist attack. JMO.

I'm going to walk through Times Square in about 15 minutes to head to the subway to go home. I hate the area because of tourists but feel that the level of security is extremely high there, especially now.
I personally might avoid it just because I hate the touristy crowds but I don't feel unsafe there.
If you aren't comfortable though, don't go.

We have tickets for the Radio City Christmas show in Dec and I asked DH if we should still go. I'm honestly nervous to go and I know it's going to be on my mind the whole time. But at the same time, we can't live in fear, otherwise we'd never do anything.

Sorry! I meant I don't feel unsafe. Pregnancy brain! Times Square was just as crowded as it always was but since I was looking for them, I can say there are definitely more cops lately than I've seen in the past.
I honestly fear crazy homeless people in the subway or gang members that look like they are up to no good more.

I hate that I feel this way. I've been on edge since Sandy Hook. I'll never be the same. I worry a tremendous amount. We really wanted to go into the city with our girls to see the balloons blown up but we are skipping it. I'm sure it is safe with all the extra security but its not worth the anxiety and stress I would feel.

I'm hesitant. But life has to go on right? The city is no safer than it was before these threats. A terrorist with a bomb strapped to his body just can't really be stopped. Millions of people...many go unnoticed. I do feel like they will blow up the bridges next though. Sad world we live in these days!

See that's the thing. A week ago, it was JUST as bad, but we didn't know about it. Or it wasn't in the FRONT of our mind. And everyone went into the city with no second thoughts. Sometimes after a bad event like last week, I feel like it's actually the SAFEST time. Everyone goes on high alert. They flood the area with police presence. Until we all get complacent again. You know?

Re: Would you go the Times Square area with your child/ren this weekend? POLL
I would not. The city has changed very much the last year or so, independent of the current ISIS threats. My hubby is NYPD & said no way in hell is he bringing our kids 2 & 5 into the city anytime soon. Too many random shootings, etc.. happening for him to be comfortable. We are actually skipping Radio City this year bc I am very pregnant & god forbid an emergency he is worried about being in the city w/ me not able to fend for myself as usual.

Re: Would you go the Times Square area with your child/ren this weekend? POLL
We were supposed to go but have decided not to now. My DD is not happy :(....I know its probably safe etc etc but I just cannot relax and take the chance. I had this discussion with DH earlier and I said if we lived and worked in manhattan then I would try to suck it up and just hope for the best but being that I have a choice whether to go into NYC or not I am choosing not.

Why give those assh0les what they want? Why sign over your life to them and live in fear and avoid doing what you do? We are NYers. Ain't nobody got time for that!

Well on top of the terrorist threats- which have always been there to be honest- this new mayor is turning the city back into the crime ridden slum it was in the '70s with his policies so.... I hear you on that!

I didn't answer the poll bc I don't have kids but I personally would go if I had a reason to.
As a pp said I try to avoid it also bc of tourists in general.
