Blood work for gender is this true
A girl at work was saying that because she was 35 they did genetic blood work that also told her baby gender. Is this something new? I'm 34 so not even sure I qualify

Not really new. Since I'll be 35 when the baby is born they did the panorama test. And yes they can tell the gender.

Yup I'm 36 and had this done. There are a few different tests but they all test for basically the same thing. I did the Mateni21 but there is also the Panorama and Harmony tests. They check fetal DNA for genetic issues and can also determine the sex by the chromosome.
I don't remember having these tests available when I was pregnant with DD#1 but that was 8 years ago

Not new. If you are 35 or older when giving birth they will be offered to you. Your doctor will explain everything your first visit

Not new but people are talking about it. Normally if you're high risk or over age 35 your doctor may push it but it's not mandatory if you're under but still may be suggested. I had it done with my youngest since I was pushing 40.

I am 33 and my doctors asked me to do the panoramic, they said they offer it to everyone instead of doing the blood portion of the 12 week testing

So this is done at 12 weeks? Amazing things they can tell these days. I'm nervous because my husband had radiation for thyroid cancer and though it's been a few months he is nervous his sperm was affected

Yes it's done around 12 weeks. As far as I know radiation affects fertility. So since you are pregnant that's doesn't seem like an issue. Talk to your doctor.

I believe it can be done as early as 10w.
I would mention it to the Dr, but as long as youll be 35 when the baby is born they will most likely offer it to you anyway

Blood work for gender is this true
How old are these tests? I didn't have this mentioned at either previous pregnancy (my youngest is almost 3) and I don't recall anyone talking about them. I was offered these tests this time and I'm not 35. I'm also noticing many more people talking about such tests.

I think they are within the last few years, possibly the last 3 years as my colleague with a 2.5 year old had the test done. She was definitely over 35 when she had her LO though.

My DS is 3.5 and these tests weren't around when I was pregnant with him. So it's only been the last couple of years I think.

Ahh, ok, that's what I thought. I guess "new" is a relative term because that's new to me!

It probably depends on your doctor as well. I was 35 when I had DS 3 years ago and was not offered the test, but I know it existed long before that. If you have the option, go for it but know insurance does not usually cover it.

Recently more doctors are offering to women under 35
