North Merrick school district

If your DC is in the North Merrick school district, would you please share your experience good or bad? Was your child able to stay in district or sent to another district? My DC will be evaluated for kindergarten soon and I'm hoping for a heads up on how the district handles things.

North Merrick school district

I don't personally have any experience with the district but an article is circulating today about how North Merrick refused to let 2 autistic boys who were elopers, wear a GPS tracking advice. They eventually agreed to allow it. To me, their immediate refusal of something that is life saving is a huge red flag. I would reach out to their SEPTA and talk to parents in the district and also join some of the special need groups on Facebook and ask there.

I saw the article about the location device and the issue the district had with it is that there is a listen in feature that they objected to - that someone could listen in on the classroom during the school day. They agreed to the device once that feature was disabled during the school day.

I don't really know too much about the district but you should be able to call the special ed office to find out what type of placements they have for Kindergarten - do they have self contained classes, if so, what size are they? Do they have integrated or inclusion classes? They should be able to tell you that at least.
