Name Dilemma
Hi, so I need reassurance. My cousin and I were both pregnant at the same time with our first. I've had names picked for my kids before DH and I were married. My cousin knew if I had a girl with our first pregnancy what we would name her since I loved this name. This name was never on her radar for girl names. Well, we both had boys. She than gets pregnant again and this time with a girl. 6 months into her pregnancy she casually tells me her top 3 choices and one of the names happened to be my all time favorite name. I said to her well you have always known I love that name and if I am blessed with a DD one day I will name her that so we'll have 2 in the family. About a month before her due date she starts referencing the baby by my favorite name and tells me that's the name they selected, never addressing my feelings. well now I'm pregnant again..lol...and if it's a girl I want to stick to the name I've always loved. DS thinks we should go with our 2nd choice. I know my cousin will be irratated but she stOle (or borrowed) my name. In the end we just want a healthy baby regarless of name/gender. Although, I'm guessing it will be another DS. We'll find out Friday!

Re: Name Dilemma
I'd stick with the name you love. My cousin and I both loved the same boy's name. We laughed about it and said there would be two Liams in the family. So far, there's three girls.

Re: Name Dilemma
Yup, agreed. I'd go with the name you've always loved. It was pretty rude of her to take that from you, having known how much you love it. When I was pregnant with #1, my sister had a name she really liked and I fell in love with it too. I addressed that even before putting it on my list, asked her if it was okay, waited for her to give it to me (and if she didn't, then I'd move on and keep looking). She did hand it over to me and it was my top 2 contender. Then when I saw my baby girl, it just didn't fit her so we went with the other name. I swore I was having another girl this time around and was SET to have that name this time around (again I asked her if she was still ok with that). Ended up being a boy anyhow. lol. So maybe that name is just meant to be hers someday, who knows!! But the point is, it wasn't very nice of your cousin to just take it without addressing your feelings first. It's not as though you have a claim to it, but it's the kind & gracious thing to do. So if I were you, I'd take it anyhow.

Re: Name Dilemma
I would stick with the name you have always loved and if you find out on Friday you are having a girl, I would just mention to her one more time that you can't imagine your DD with any other name so you will be choosing it too. Sometimes it is so hard to decide on a name. DH and I don't like a lot of the same names so it can be difficult. I have a boy name I have loved since college. It was pretty uncommon until an actress named her son this name. Now it's everywhere. I don't care. I still love it and plan to use it if I ever have a DS.

Find out what you're having and then worry about it. No need to stress if you have a little boy in there!
But I agree, choose the name you love.

go with it- i'd be really annoyed, though. That's why I never told anyone what my favorite names are!

Re: Name Dilemma
My SIL did the same ****** thing to me... Told her I love the name Sophie before any of us were pg. She got pg w/ a DD and I got pg w/ my DS as our first children. She "told" me casually she liked Sophie then asked for personalized Sophie stuff on her registry and that's how I found out. By the time I got pg w/ my DD I fell in love w/ Esme which means "beloved" and I'm happy it turned out the way it did. I love Esme's name even more and it actually suits my DD's personality better too. She tells me she loves her name. I guess things have a way of working themselves out. If you and your fam member will see each other a lot I personally wouldn't use it. Good luck! And hugs, it really does suck to be in that position.

This. Don't stress it until you know you need to.
It always aggravates me when people do this. Or when they pick a name they "love" so you keep it off your own list....and then they never use it.
