Is it possible to have a false positive GTT?
I failed the 1 hr and 3 hr glucose tests. I had GD with my first DD and I had a much harder time getting things under control the first few weeks than I am now. I started the GD diet last wednesday and testing blood sugars yesterday. All my BS numbers have been normal or low except for this morning after breakfast when it was high by 3 points. I'm eating all the carbs allowed plus plenty of protein and fats and Im starving!! I actually tested my blood sugar after my morning snack because I was so hungry that i thought that I must be very low...I was 92. This is what I ate today...it's a lot...I don't think I should be hungry!! Fasting: 81 Bkfast: 2 egg white, 1 egg, whole wheat bagel thin, half slice of cheese, 2 slices of bacon BS: 133 Snack: greek yogurt with almonds Lunch: RB/turkey/ham on ww sandwich thin with cheese, carrots, pear BS:101 Snack: peanut butter on ww crackers and strawberries Snack: protein bar (diabetese specialist recommended) Dinner: Chicken quesadilla with cheese, peppers and onions and half a cheese quesadilla (I added the half bc last night my BS was 111 after the quesadilla so I figured I could handle more carbs) BS: 93!!! I just ate a bagel thin with cream cheese instead of waiting the extra hour because my diabetes specialist said she doesn't want me below 100 1 hr after meals. Im still starving and I think that is a lot of food. Any thoughts?
Part of me wants to eat "normal" and test my BS to see, but Im sure that is probably a dumb move. I only failed the 1 hr by 4 pts and the 2nd blood draw of the 3 hr by 5 pts. It's clear that the one hour after eating my first meal of the day is my worst time (as it is for most) but my others are fine or low. I can't handle being hungry and I don't want to gain extra weight because I keep adding more and more proteins and nuts. Shouldn't I be full on all this food? Help!!

Is it possible to have a false positive GTT?
I'm pretty sure I was misdiagnosed both times. I had no problems whatsoever controlling numbers after meals. Fasting was a little more difficult to control but I also never had a nighttime snack like I was supposed to.
I ended up being more lenient with my diet the second time around. I took the 2 hour and failed the fasting by 2 points ONLY because my Dr decided to start accepting nothing higher than a 92 instead of a 95 for fasting and I had gotten a 94. Such BS! Most other drs would have considered me passing. I had passed the 1 and 2 hour draws with flying colors. I was so mad.
My A1C came back normal

I have wondered this about myself but I'm thinking you shouldn't have been elevated after breakfast ,assuming the 133 was elevated. I've never been told to test after 1 hour. I'm always told to test after two and to be below 120.
I don't see what being hungry has to do with being diabetic or not though.
Eta- Unless you're saying you think you're hungry due to hypoglycemia? I would discuss that with your doctor or nutritionist. I am often hungry during the day when I "shouldn't" be but I just attribute that to being pregnant or bored.

Re: Is it possible to have a false positive GTT?
I don't think it's a false positive, but I think your doctor's numbers for passing are on the low side. My doctor uses 135 as the cutoff for the 1 hour. I got a 154 on the 1 hour with each pregnancy. The first time I passed the 3 hour. With the second pregnancy, I failed 1 blood draw by 2 or 3 points and was diagnosed with glucose intolerance. It's treated the same as GD. I never developed GD, but the only one I did have some issues keeping under control was my fasting number.
What you're eating seems like well balanced meals. Are you full after the meal? For the meals where your blood sugar is low, you could always add more carbs. Instead of a sandwich thin, have whole grain bread. There were times when I had plenty of protein and vegetables and maybe a slice of bread, my blood sugar was well below the max. It's definitely trial and error especially for the first few weeks. My doctor also expected that 10% of the time there may be a reading above what it should be. Also, if you know you have issues after the first meal of the day, try to take a 20 minute walk after the meal. I remember being told that exercise helps keep your numbers in check.

Yes, that's exactly what Im wondering about...hypoglycemia. When I was in the specialist's office, I tested 2 hours after breakfast and I was 72!! And I had the same breakfast that I posted above.
I guess maybe I feel I'm borderline. I definitely have a little harder time after breakfast but that same meal other times of the day would put me lower.
I have a call in to see what the specialist thinks, but Im already eating more than she originally suggested so I don't know how much more food to add.

I guess that's what's frustrating....every dr has different standards so with one I would have it and another I wouldnt. I also expected the trial and error to be that I would have high blood sugars and I would have to adjust to lower them because that is what happened last time...it feels weird for them to be lower than expected which makes me feel like Im tolerating the carbs better than they expect.
I am full directly after my meals but an hour later I am hungry and I have to wait anoither hour to eat so by them Im starving and so my snack isn't enough. It just feels like Im a bottomless pit.
I was going to use regular bread today instead of sandwhich thin but that puts me over my allotted carbs so I got nervous and didn't. I let a message for the specialist so I'll see what she thinks.

See I am often in the mid to high 70's 2 hours after breakfast and only went above 100 once. They never told me to be above a certain number after eating but I'm wondering if that was an oversight. At the 3 hour for my GTT I was in the 40's and almost passed out so that makes me nervous.
Oddly enough my tough meal is dinner! It's hard for me to get full on what they recommend and I get bored with the same thing over and over.

I definitely have GD. My fasting numbers range between 120-150 and my after meals are in the mid 100s 1 hour post even if I do no or very little carbs.
Your numbers sound fantastic to me.
The Dr. I'm seeing wants 95 or below fasting and under 120 2 hours post meal.

Re: Is it possible to have a false positive GTT?
Thanks everyone!!
i just spoke to her and she is not concerned at all and thinks everything looks great. She thinks I might just be "lucky" and get to have a little more carbs at this point. She gave me permission to experiment a little by adding some carbs and seeing if it makes me fuller and doesn't negatively affect my numbers. I guess it doesn't really matter if I am truly GD or not. If I can handle the food based on my BS, I can eat it. I also realized that my post breakfast numbers are not high...she wants them under 140 after 1 hr and for some reason I had 130 in my head. I think with my last pregnancy I needed below 120 after 1 hr which is why I remember struggling so much! It all feels so arbitrary!
I also just need to relax, which is what she told me in a very nice way

Is it possible to have a false positive GTT?
I took the GTT test 4 times (long story) and they finally failed me just before 36 weeks. My failure was even considered borderline but it was enough that the dr diagnosed me as GD. I only followed the diet for just under 2 weeks but I never had a problem controlling my numbers. In fact, my numbers were really really low. Never over 70 in the morning and my blood sugar only went over 100 twice. Once when I had a cheeseburger and when I had a turkey club with sweet potato fries. I was absolutely convinced I was misdiagnosed. Well, I just had my A1C results come in and apparently I am borderline pre-diabetic now. It was a shock to say the least. I just think that some people can tolerate the carbs/sugar better than others. As long as you aren't eating boxes of cookies I definitely think it's fine to experiment a little bit and see what your body can tolerate.
