Not inviting the entire class to birthdays?

I don't really want to invite DS entire class of 20 kids. There are a handfull of kids that he likes in his class & a few from outside of school. Do you email the parent on the side and invite their child? Our teacher will only distribute bday invites if the entire class is invited or all boys/ all girls. That wouldn't work for us because there are 15 boys in the class! Were there any issues of kids finding out & getting upset the day after the bday party if they weren't invited. I would thinjk that by Monday, kids would have forgotten that they even went to a party.

Not inviting the entire class to birthdays?

We are having a party for my son over the holiday break. I only invited one kid from his class because I'm keeping it small (I only invited 11 kids). I toyed with it at first based on your concerns but, I really couldn't justify inviting the whole class cost wise and he has friends that he is very close with that aren't in his class.

We received a list of email and snail mail addresses at the beginning of the year so I used that to invite him.

Not inviting the entire class to birthdays?

I invited the entire class through 1st grade. Second and Third just the girls in the class and a few from outside the class. Next year she is just picking a few kids and I'll send the invite directly to their house. As long as you not send it through school, you can invite whoever you want but the kids do talk and know who was invited and who was not.

Re: Not inviting the entire class to birthdays?

Our teacher gave out a 'friendship list" at the beginning of school
It has everyone's address on it.
So I would be able to mail the invites to the students she wants to invite.
They only allow you to distribute in class if everyone is invited

I would only invite the kids that you feel like inviting. There is no need to invite the entire class, all the girls, all the boys, etc. Just send the invites outside of class and call it a day. There are a lot of things kids won't be invited to in life, and I tell them that. Happens to my kids, who cares!

We don't even necessarily do the class, we just invite DS good friends, class or not.

Re: Not inviting the entire class to birthdays?

I have never invited the entire class. And as far as I know, no one was upset by it. And if they were, I'm sorry, but that's life. My kids have never been upset about not being invited to anyone's party either.

Re: Not inviting the entire class to birthdays?

We stopped inviting the whole class this year in 2nd grade. DS just invited the boys. He hasn't mentioned anything about any girls finding out or getting upset. Most people don't invite the whole class.
