Inviting the Whole Class to a Birthday Party?

DD is turning 5 soon...she is in preK. She has 25 children in her class. 12 are girls, not including her.

We have 12 children who are our friends' kids and her friends outside of school.

I am thinking of inviting just the girls from her class in addition to the other 12 to a bounce party for her.

We went to a party recently for a boy in her class that had 30 kids.....I can't imagine inviting her whole class because that would put us at 40 kids invited!!! I guess my question is....is that normal? DD is our only child, so we are beginners at this. I don't want this to get too out of control!

Another question....if we are inviting just girls, what happens if a boy invites her to their party? How do we invite him and none of the other boys?

I would just invite all of the girls. That is what we do. Otherwise it's just too many people. I think most parents understand.

I never invite the whole class. I let DS pick 2-4 kids.

It could go either way too. DS is in Pre-K.

He had 18 kids in his class. I think 4 or 5 responded they were coming and only 3 ended up actually showing up.

I was talking to two of the mothers though and they said they never invite the whole class.....just ask their kids who they want there (both have older kids so have been through the bday routine) because they simply couldn't afford it if everyone actually showed up.

You also have to take into consideration families showing up with siblings.

This happened too at DS party but it wasn't a big deal since others who RSVP'd didn't show.

I'm re-evaluating what I'm going to do for next year because this past year was stressing me out way too much and it ended up being a crap load of money again for only a handful of kids.

I invited the entire class. I did however, wait until three days before the party to send an email to the parents thinking it was short notice and no one would attend.

Well, 14 out of 19 kids attended. $$$$$$

This is SO stressful! The latest is that a boy from last year and this year just invited her to his party. I have socialized with his mom a few times at other parties and feel obligated to ask him to come too. So now I am inviting one boy? And she just went to another boy's party, so do I just invite him too?

I would just ask her class if there weren't other kids to invite outside of school, but like I said, that would bring the total to 40 kids, which is just ridiculous. Chat Icon

My experience with class invites at that age was either the entire class or all the girls, or all the boys. I wouldn't worry about the boy Moms feeling slighted, they will understand.
