Lactation consultant & La Leche League Suffolk County
I've been having trouble breast feeding DD, especially since I had to take some time off in order to get her tongue tie snipped. Now she will be a month old and we are back to square one.
I need a lactation consultant, but have had trouble finding one by me that accepts insurance. (Lake Grove area)
Also, can someone tell me what the la Leche league is all about? Are they lactation consultants? What are the meetings for?
TIA!!!

Have you called your insurance? I had an LC, but we paid out of pocket - I think it was only 2 visits - well worth it. Does the local hospital offer a Breastfeeding Support Group?
Maybe call the StonyBrook Midwives to see of they know of anything?
Good luck!

Re: Lactation consultant & La Leche League Suffolk County
Good for not getting discouraged and keep trying it!!! Bfeeding is not easy and reaching out for help is a great idea!! I wasn't succesful the first time because of lack of knowledge and support but with DS2, I made sure to try to prepare myself as much possible during my pregnancy cause I really wanted to succeed. Going to La Leche meetings is great! The women in those groups are very knowledgable, encouraging, and sweet (at least to the ones I've gone) so going to these meetings is a great plus! The meetings are about anything and everything related to bfeeding and they love having new mommies so they can provide help, there was an LC in my group if I don't bad remember but if there isn't u probably won't even need one cause these women really know their stuff, but if u still wanna get in touch with an LC, u can ask them, they can provide u with that info.
Other things to try is surround urself with friends that have been successful at bfeeding, especially if they've done it with more than one kid. Because of the relationship, they can provide great help.
Also FB has great support groups, whenever u have a question, u'll get an answer very quickly from many mommies. The administration in these groups are very hands on monitoring advice given to make sure that it's accurate (again at least the ones I've joined.) these ones are the ones I belong to in case u're interested,

Hope this helps and let me know if u have any question
