Re: not sure the subject

I empathize, I dont think I would have stuck around much longer to do any chit-chat at such a table though. I have been to various functions (mostly alumni events) where the conversation flows to that topic and I just say DH and I will have different kinds of kids (the fur baby kind) because we like our CF lifestyle..and as it stands, I am CF for life anyway since I had a hysterectomy last year and physically can't reproduce anyway, so that decision was already made for me.

In your scenario, do not feel bad - if these women think the "be all, end all" of life is to get married, pop out kids and talk about how wonderful their kids/husbands are - that seems pretty superficial chit chat. You should never compare your insides to someone else's outsides - for all you know, any of those women could easily have a cheating DH, a special needs child, a home on the brink of foreclosure..But THEY will never admit that to your face..so rest assured that you shouldnt let crap like that bother you! Thank you, its not that they were pushing it in my face, but how I allow myself to feel. Not fitting in etc.

I agree, they can all be living on the brink of foreclosure etc and I would never know.

thank you for your kind words.

I didn't see your original post but I get the idea

I always feel left out when I'm around people with children. And it's ok. It's the people who make you feel included that are the ones you should associate with. If all a woman can ever discuss is her kids nap schedule or her DH being wonderful, than she doesn't really have anything of substance to add to a conversation that is worth me having. Sounds mean - but honest.

ditto didn't see the op but I agree with PhyllisNJoe.

In general if the conversation goes in such a direction I usually proclaim "Man am I glad I don't have to worry about any of that! Just planning for early retirement over here!!"

That usually shuts them up.
