Glass for dining room table
We are getting a new dining room set soon and I want to either get pads or glass made for it because of my kids. How do you put the leaf in if you have glass on it? Do you take the glass off when you are using the table with a leaf?

Yeah with glass you'd have to take the glass off if you put in a leaf
Pads might be easier if you plan on switching between leaf vs no leaf

We got the glass with the leaf so we always leave the leaf in. I will say this, I have 2 young kids and things get under the glass so easily. The glass is HEAVY so it's hard to clean b/w the glass and the table. However, for a few weeks we had a tablecloth on the table and taking everything off the table to change the cloth was annoying, too.

Good to know. With pads does there HAVE to be a tablecloth? Not a fan of tablecloths year round.

The pads are designed to be used with a tablecloth over them- they are generally made in sections.

we went through this. i hate tableclothes. i tried to leave it uncovered for a while and adults were ruining it.
Glass won't work, it would be very hard to store then opening and closing it for a leaf.
We did get 2 pieces of plexi glass cut for each half of the table and did that for a year or so. It gets very scratched up looking but it did do the trick. but at somepoint it started slipping around alot and my son was starting to sit at the table, so we went back to putting the pads on with a tablecloth again.

i am looking at pics on lines. you really don't have to. you get them made to match the wood so they can be used uncovered and blend in. Now that you brought the up, i told DH maybe we should try the table with just the pads!

Same. My table pads are the same color as the wood.

If you get the glass, did the little circles that go under it dent the wood? We have ours uncovered and use pads when we actually use it (which is like once a year or so) and have been considering getting a glass cover. DH is worried about it getting dents. We eat 99% of the time at the kitchen island.

We used Pioneer table pads. They were great.

No, the circles don't damage the table at all. We've had the glass for 1.5 years and the table under the glass is perfect.
