Re: Making a Murderer (Netflix show)?

I can't stand when they say he used Shackles... Does everyone know what the Hell Shackles are??? The "shackles were bedroom handcuffs that were pink and furry that she could have just gotten out of her self!

Here is what was said when the DA tried to use this in court.

DA: Your Honour we would like to bring into evidence, the leg irons used.

Judge: You mean the fluffy pink ones in your hands?

DA: Yes your Honour, all the rage these days with serial killers and the like.

Judge: You seem to know a bit too much about the fashion of crime.

DA: Moving on, your Honour we would like to bring also into evidence, these porn magazines.

Judge: You must be joking.

DA: A lady in them has the pink fluffy restraints on

Judge: That's it! Bailiff, remove this man from the court room.

This is just another joke the DA put together!!

SMH!!

Finally finished. UNREAL. Such a complete and gross injustice. Manitowoc County should clean house top to bottom from the courts to the cops and get rid of these criminals in power. I don't even know where to start, SO much was wrong here.

First, he had NO motive. I don't care how creepy someone is or even if they were nasty to a cat. He had NO motive. Here is a man who spent 18 years proving his innocence, FINALLY gets out of out prison, gets engaged, and stands to get MILLIONS from the county. WHY after all of that would you now murder someone out of nowhere??? And I think there is something to be said for the fact that he stands by his innocence 100%. He's never wavered, he's never hinted at the possibility of guilt. You would think at this point he'd cop to something but he's admanadant about his innocence. I think he's innocent. 100%.

Those cops???!!!!!!! Those investigators????? C'mon. Shady as the day is long. The fact is, the entire county and every cop was embarrassed by the fact that this white trash nobody was bringing them down. Not to mention he was costing the county a ton of money in damages. They had EVERY reason to frame him, it was payback. Plain and simple. That judge was SO biased. Those cops mishandled everything. And I firmly believe they did WHATEVER they had to in order to get him convicted. They NEVER even considered another suspect which is insane. How about taking a look at that creepy ex-BF. That guy had MOTIVE. He tapped into her phone records right away, VM's were deleted, he set up a search with detailed maps where to look for her and the car. C'mon. That's NO accident. And why on earth on 40 acres of land with a car crusher right there would you park a dead woman's car a few feet away and covered by a branch???? That's moronic. He's not THAT stupid.

And don't even get me started on the giant "show" the DA put on with the press conference, that elaborate BS story about her being chained up, raped, cut, and on and on. There was NO. absolutely NO, DNA evidence in that trailer where they claimed this all happened. NO blood, NO semen, NO saliva, NO sweat, NONE of her DNA.................nothing!!!! And so what that he had an Auto Trader receipt and magazine in the house??? That doesn't mean someone was actually in your house and you KILLED someone. I have plenty of crap in my house that people have handed to me on my porch, it sure as $hit doesn't mean I brought them in and tortured them just because I have literature from them in my house. The whole thing is insanity.

And the key???? In PLAIN SIGHT found on the 7th visit??!!! 7th visit!!!................by Detective Lenk no less. A man who had a bridge to burn with him. How can anyone think that wasn't planted???!!! And let's not forget the other detective who called in the plates and correct vehicle for the dead woman's SUV TWO DAYS BEFORE it was ever "found" by that very shady, "concerned" citizen". Nobody finds it odd that this woman goes with her DD to search the property of a potential murderer ALL ALONE???? W-T-F??? She went there and "found" that SUV because it was all planned, someone KNEW exactly where that truck was and SENT her there to "find it". I mean c'mon, she finds it barely hidden within minutes of being there??? Yea, ok. That's not shady at all. Give me a break.

These entire case had SO many holes, SO many questions, SO many questionable police antics that I don't know how on earth that VERY BIASED jury convicted him. There was no way you can say that he was guilty BEYOND A REASONABLE doubt. Not even close. NOTHING adds up in this case. Based on the evidence, he was set up and that woman's killer is running free somewhere laughing his a$$ off. The fact is, they wanted to convict him now matter what regardless of guilt or innocence. They had a score to settle and they went after him from the get go.

And the nephew??? That boy was a just a kid with the intelligence and mental capacity of a grape. LOL He didn't have a clue. He was VERY obviously coerced into giving a confession BUT when left to his own devices without cops breathing down his neck and telling him what to say his story was ALWAYS the same...............he wasn't there, never saw her, and didn't do anything. That poor kid is rotting in jail and he's innocent. I can't believe that jury convicted him on all 3 counts, in particular sexual assault without ANY physical or DNA evidence. That is a crime. They had NOTHING to convict this kid, those video confessions alone with those corrupt cops should've been enough for them to come back with a NOT guilty verdict.

The whole thing is just crazy. The fact is these were poor, uneducated people who were targeted by a VERY corrupt county. They had a score to settle with this man and they weren't going to go down looking stupid for putting an innocent man behind bars for 18 yrs so instead, they "redeem" themselves with the community by framing him for a murder so it looks like they got the right guy and did their job. I don't know how ANYONE can say Steven Avery and his nephew are guilty BEYOND any reasonable doubt. There are just too many things in this case that are "off".

Engrossing documentary and absolutely crazy to see how corrupt and unjust our judicial system can be.

I agree with you totally.. i just finished it this morning and i'm so enraged by what happened.

Look - NONE of us know what happened at the trail and the other evidence presented against Steven that may have helped convince the jury to convict. We'll probably never know..
But what i find so hard to accept is that the jury didn't come back as a hung jury.. How on earth could they say that he was guilty BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT. As anyone who's been on a jury before knows, that's the absolute standard you have to judge everything by. Not if you don't like him, not if you think he's guilty, not if he's evil.. but did the prosecution prove him guilty.
Ugh.
That excused juror said when they first took a poll, there were 7 that voted innocent, 2 undecided and 3 guilty. So you're telling me that 3 people convinced 9 others to convict him? That's insane!!
If the jurors were scared of repercussions or didn't want to face the towns retribution if they found him innocent, then they should have said they were hung and had a re-trial.

Shameful all around. I really hope that Brendan and Steven both get some redemption in some form out of the renewed attention this has gotten them.

I can't say 100% that Steven is innocent, but he and Brenden both deserve fair trials.

My conclusion is that it was Jodis Boyfriend. He has a past history of abusing women, and had access to the site, and was actually at the site that day.

I don't recall anything about Jodi having another boyfriend. I only remember Steven being her boyfriend.

I suspect that someone else (perhaps Avery's brother) that lived on the Avery property may have killed her. However, since the police zero'd in on Steven, none of them were properly investigated and that person has gotten away with murder.

I confused the name I meant Stevens sister Barb. I think it was her boyfriend.

I read yesterday that there's going to be a second season. I hope they bring up more of the things that they left out so it's not so slanted.

It's a documentary though, not a show. What would they even do with another "season"??............everything was wrapped up and ended in current time. They are in both in jail, unless there is another full trial to try and get them released I can't see what else there is to the story.

I did find it weird as I was watching that the episodes all said season 1. I was wondering if that meant that there's another season. Not sure how that'll work either.

It won't be a "season 2" per se, but a follow-up based on whatever transpires going forward. The filmmakers said that they are open to adding to the film and are still covering the case. They just did an interview with Steven at the prison, which they said could be used in a follow up documentary.

Nothing is set in stone.

I'm not done watching the documentary but I feel that they won't receive a fair trial AT ALL in that county. Now with all the fame the documentary is giving to these cases, is there any way these cases can be brought to a higher court, not just a county one, like maybe with US Supreme judges??

Pretty sure she helped Ryan Ferguson. He gave a false confession and was released with her help.

I dont know what to make of it. I mean, it all seems SO corrupt. Like, if he did kill her, where is the blood, where did he kill her? Why would he just leave her car in plain site on his lot. It doesnt make sense. Then the vile of blood and the broken evidence seal. I seriously DO NOT trust her brother AT ALL. Even before reading this I thought it was SO weird the first thing he said was he doesnt know how long he will grieve for, but yet she had only been missing like a day and wasnt confirmed dead yet. I still have a few episodes to go, but I dont know. I dont know that he DIDNT do it, but definitely not beyond a shadow of reasonable doubt. I have never seen such corruption in my life. However, can one dept be SO corrupt that they kill an innocent woman just to frame this man?

Id be interested to know what was omitted from the documentary. I was reading an article yesterday and the County Sheriff was saying in the police interview video you can see in the Doc that it is spliced together bc the time stamp jumps around.

I posted the link above but here it is again. 14 things the doc didn't show:

I am still on episode 3 (Thanks Hofstra getting me hooked on yet another series Chat Icon ), but I read the link (point 3) and it was mentioned that his DNA was found on the key in episode 3. They also found that it had none of HER DNA.

I just finished this series last night and I do think he's innocent. I don't think he's smart enough to murder that woman without leaving any evidence in his house. Like a pp said, how can there be no blood? They show the condition of the garage, there'd be no way for him to get rid of every trace of evidence if he shot her in there. It doesn't make sense. Her roommate and ex boyfriend seemed incredibly guilty.

I can't rationalize why Steven's sweat would be on the hood of her car, if there wasn't something fishy...

That is the KEY point for me. I could rationalize everything else. But his sweat on the hood?! Brendan said that they opened the hood of her car and took out the battery cable, so it makes sense if Brendan is telling the truth.

It all doesn't sit right.

I'm so late to the game but didn't they say a tech admitted to not changing
Gloves after handling evidence and he touched the roof of the car???

And also something about not being able to prove it was actually sweat

SPOILERS!!!

Dh and I finished it last night. I can't for certain say he isn't guilty but if I was on that jury I would have enough doubt that I couldn't be able to convict him. There were so many times DH and I were like "are you kidding me" regarding how the investigation was carried out. Especially the part where that officer called in Teresa's plates before the car was found and said the type of car. To me he was looking at that car with the plates on it. And when you watched the end he was the officer escorting both Steve and Brendan from the court. Conflict of interest much?

If he was framed I believe someone else killed her (not the police) and when they found her car and body/burned skeleton they planted it on his property.

My question is why? Planting the key and car on the Avery compound is way too obvious. Imo. And the nephew was caught in the middle of all of this. And this poor woman died. And her ex and her brother both seem shady. I feel like no one looked into them. Why frame him for murder? I'm asking the general you here. Way too many questions were left unanswered

ITA!~!~!~!~!~!~I just finished it the other night. Why? Who had such a grudge against him? He obviously pissed someone off enough to get them to this point.
I don't understand where the courts in this jurisdiction and LE for that matter, ignored the fact that you are innocent unless proven guilty. The presumption of innocence is nonexistent.

While I agree that they're a rough crowd (they make Utica look like Jericho lmao) there's no other reason to take advantage than a vengeance. I think he's not guilty of Theresa Halbach's murder. No motive, no evidence of shackling or blood etc. I think the thing that angered me most is how they used questioning techniques on Brendan and fully took advantage of his simple-mindedness. Infuriating.
Chat Icon what's with the old lady at the end who wants to be his gf while he's in prison?
Having said that, there's obviously another side to this story. Producing a show of this caliber isn't cheap. There is a reason this story and show made it to Netflix.
