Where could I live in Florida?
My first thought is that Florida is not very desirable for young families.
Can anyone recommend a town with a highly ranked school system?
I am not sure if Florida is the best place for my career, but would love to live by the ocean if I move out of state.
I need to live my a city though, so my options are limited.
Thanks!

Wellington and Jupiter both have excellent school districts (at least by Florida standards) if you are looking at southeast Florida. Jupiter housing is way more $$$$ than Wellington given it's much closer to the ocean.

Where could I live in Florida?
My BIL moved his 3 daughters to Wellington about 10 years ago from another part of FL for the schools. One of my nieces requires intense special ed which has been great in Wellington. My oldest did well, graduated college and lives on the west coast now, my youngest was put in a charter school in 10th grade because my BIL felt like the public school was not up to par. Overall, wellington Schools are considered some of the best in FL

St. John's County (Jacksonville) has the highest rated schools in the state. That is where we are hoping to be by the end of the year!

Re: Where could I live in Florida?
We moved to Jacksonville almost a year ago now. We live in Saint Johns County and love it. It's not NY (for better or for worse), but its a really great place to raise a family. You can message me if you have questions. There was another poster on here that helped answer a ton of my questions when we were considering moving. She also lives in the same area as us.
For what it's worth our best friends live in Jupiter and keep a horse in Wellington. I would not move to Jupiter. It just doesn't seem as family friendly. They are considering moving to Wellington, but she is in private practice in Jupiter. We also have friends in Boca. They seem to love it, but I didn't get the best vibe when we were there.
We did look at a few places when we were considering relocating. Ultimately, my husband took the best job opportunity in the best location for us.

Re: Where could I live in Florida?
I've heard good things about Jacksonville schools. If you are looking in Tampa area, my DH has family in Palm Harbor and schools are supposed to be good there, too.

Re: Where could I live in Florida?
I grew up in South Florida and attended public schools there and honestly, I don't think that my education was in anyway inferior to my DH and friends who grew up here. In fact, I believe, that in many ways it was superior. We have a network of great magnet high schools that anyone in the district can apply to (as well as magnet elementary and middle schools). In grade school I had language classes everyday and photography classes. I think Florida gets a bad rap but I think it is mainly due to the fact that scores here on LI are skewed because the districts are small and segregated. In Sfla, it is one giant school district so all the money is divided amongst all the schools rather than having small districts that receive lots of money and districts who are poor.
For instance, there are huge deficits in other districts here on LI and my district on the north shore is sitting on a surplus of millions of dollars. My son here on LI and my nephew in FL are in the same grade and my nephew's course work and curriculum and significantly more challenging.
I don't think you will end up a school district that is hugely inferior to that here. I feel there are a lot of factors that go into a school's score and many of them are not quantitative.

If you don't mind me asking, where in St. John's county do you live? If we get to go there (should know next month) we know we want to start looking in Nocatee but we'd love other suggestions!

Don't mind at all! We live in Nocatee. There are other really great communities as well, but we wound up liking Nocatee best. Let me know if you have specific questions!
