I live in Ny, but my parents live in Stuart which is beautiful. Right there is Port St. Lucie where there are many different business' and places to work. It's an area with everything :)

My brother and his FW live in Delray Beach- they both work in Delray- he works for a mortgage company and she does advertising for locals magazines

we lived in Tampa. I worked for Capital One and bartended. DH worked for Paradise Lakes(one of the many nudist resorts down there)

My cousin lives in Wellington-she is a SAHM but her husband works in Miami- it is a long commute-but it seems to be working out
Another cousin lives in Clermont- It is near Orlando- nice area, nice house- but not near the water- it gets super hot-they want to move
Uncle lives in the Villages- he is retired
Another Uncle and Aunt- Palm Springs- they too are retired
Mom has cousins in West Palm Beach too
I forgot, we have extended family in Boyton Beach
My parents are thinking of buying soon too- Jupiter?Naples? they aren't quite sure yet

How far is that commute?
Is the traffic bad in south FL?
my brothers FW used to do that commute from Delray- which is about 35 minutes south of Wellington (wellington is North Palm Beach County- almost near the county line- which is where my Dad lives in Jupiter)
and it was miserable for her- lots of traffic- like driving from suffolk to the city

yeah, the traffic is bad, he hates the drive but it is where he has to work and my cousin loves her home in wellington so she doesn't want to move-he said sometimes it can take 2 hours

you might want to do some research on the property tax issue down there
right now it's 2% of your purchase price- which is one of the reasons we aren't moving there
so $400K house = $8K in property taxes
they are trying to get rid of it- but it's something to be aware of

I don't blame her- Wellington is nice- my Aunt and Uncle live there
(I am the only one in my family who lives here- I know alot about South Flordia)

Thanks Beth! Yea we heard that, but we probably will rent until we are fully settled in jobs, etc. Hopefully they will get rid of it by then.

 Ugh, DH is applying to jobs in miami too but that commute sounds horrible! My friend works in the wellington high school and it's a great school district.

that's a good idea- you will probably get a better deal on a house in a year or 2- the market is taking a huge hit down there
renting down there is so much easier- everything is brand new, you need a $500 sercurity deposit if that
my brother rented a 2 bedroom , 2 bath townhouse for $1300 a month!

I have family ALL over South Florida.
My BIL is in Port St Lucie
My MIL and FIL are in Delray Beach
My MIL parents just sold their condo in Boca and moved to Delray
My SIL is in Boynton Beach
My Brother is in Deerfield beach
My aunt and uncle have a condo in West Palm
My parents have a condo in West Palm.
We go down A LOT. We are going down next week. I love South Florida. Traffic Sucks I-95 is a nightmare  Usually take the turnpike (but that has tolls)
I have to say don't go down to Florida (well I guess south Florida thats all I know) cause you think it's "cheaper" it's NOT. We looked at houses down there and the houses around my SIL were MORE money then the houses here! The houses in Port St. Lucie are still less then here BUT it's an hour North of bolynton/delray area.
We looked at places on the west coast. Naples, Cape Coral. The houses there were in 400's (they were new houses though new houses around my SIL were over a million)
Good Luck. My brother has been down there for about 10 years. He owns his own business driving a tow truck so he is a walking map If you have any questions I can ask him.

Nice! My best friend lives right near the intercoastal in a brand new condo 2 bed/2 bath and her and her roommate pay $600 each. I was so depressed when I came home after visiting her!!

I totally agree with this- we were looking there- while prices have come down alittle ( I found more houses at christmas then I did in July)

Exactly. My SIL lives in the nicest Comunity I have ever seen. I am IN LOVE with it BUT they are older houses and they are so much money. When she bought her house it was in the 350's in 2004. Then they went over 550k they dropped a little but not a lot.
Wellington is nice but $$$$ My sil looked at houses there since her youngest daughter rides the horse and competes in Wellington.
