college/school/career question
without boring you with details...
i'm 42 and only have an associates. i want to go back to school and "do something with my life" but i have no idea what.
all the things i used to dream that i wanted to do when i grew up no longer appeal to me.
i want an education because, quite honestly, i'm embarrassed and ashamed that i never finished. i also want the time and money i spend now to pay off for me somehow and provide me with a "real" career for the remainder of my working years.
who would i speak to about helping me to figure this out?
i'm lost.

Re: college/school/career question
DH's uncle is in his 50's and went back to nursing school and is now a nurse....so it's never too late to get an education and switch careers.. what are you passionate about? do you want to work with people?

college/school/career question
I went back to school at 32. I would make sure you really want to do it. I took out loans to pay for my education and while I do not regret it I am paying loans off until I am in my 60s.
I wouldn't get too hung up on the education part. Once you figure out what you want to do it might not need an full blown degree.

I was younger than this when I went back to school for nursing, 31, but I was among the younger older students.. Students ranged in age from 40 to 50. One of coworkers in my prior career was 40 when she went back to school for accounting.
What are you passionate about? Have you taken a career aptitude test?

Re: college/school/career question
I just graduated with my BSN in December and I am 40!! I had classmates who were older. Never too late. You have to look at your interests to find out what degree you want. I work in academia, so I needed a bachelors no matter what if I wanted to qualify for promotions, and then I chose one that offered me a lot of options for a career path.
GOOD LUCK!

college/school/career question
As a PP mentioned, you want to try to make sure whatever you go back to school for will lead you to a career (not just a degree), and that it is something you are truly interested in. I would start by looking at the websites of colleges near you and see what majors they offer - see if anything jumps out at you. You could also contact the colleges to see if you can meet with a career counselor that might be able to offer some useful advice.
