Anxiety

Maybe someone can help with this. Ive suffered from anxiety for a while now. Recently its gotten bad. Ive noticed when Im really really anxious it feels like I have a lump in my throat. Theres no lump there, visually, but I feel it. Is this a side effect of major anxiety or something else?

Im sorry if i explained this weird lol

you can have physical issues from anxiety. In order to treat anxiety its important to first figure out what triggers your anxiety, once you realize what the trigger is you can work to help calm yourself.

Try taking some deep slow breaths. hugs

Sorry you're going through this! I started getting severe anxiety about 8 years ago that resulted in me refusing to drive on highways and from flying, so I know how difficult it can be living with it. I can't speak specifically to having physical issues (like a lump), but anxiety can show itself in many ways (mine is hair pulling). You should try to get help, if possible. I'm in therapy to get over the fear of flying and we talk a lot about knowing what the signs of anxiety are (where I feel it in my body) and trying to build a tolerance to get past it.

Re: Anxiety

Thank you ladies. When I lived in NY I saw a therapist and was on Zoloft. The combo was soooo good for me. After I had my kids I never continued. This was my mistake. I'm going to see who my dr recommends, now that I'm OOS I'm lost on therapists.

Re: Anxiety

Wanted to suggest, that could also be a symptom of thyroid issues. Chat Icon

Eta- I reread and saw you only have that lump in your throat feeling while you're very anxious. So.. That I'm not sure about. If it were your thyroid, it wouldn't be limited to only when you feel anxious. I hope whatever it is, anxiety or something else, that you figure it out and get the help you need to manage the symptoms Chat Icon Chat Icon

I suffer from anxiety and yes, this is a common symptom.

I've had a long list of physical symptoms over the years - lump in throat, nausea, dizziness/weird floating feeling, feeling like you can't take a full breath/can't breathe normally, etc. I feel like people probably think I'm crazy just reading this. It sucks and there are so many symptoms.

Obviously I'm not a doctor but this has been my experience. Crazy to think your mind can affect your body so much but it does :(

It could also be a sign of silent reflux.

I get it sometimes, I'll take a Prilosec for a few days and it goes away.
I don't know if its actual silent reflux or if its just a placebo and makes anxiety go away.

Re: Anxiety

My mother gets this (and has for years), but in her chest. She said it feels like a lump and she actually has to drink water to make it feel better. She's had every test under the sun done, and no one can find a medical reason for it. She has noticed that it happens during times of extreme anxiety.
Sorry, no real advice, just wanted you to know you're not alone. Anxiety sucks. Chat Icon

Re: Anxiety

I also suffer from anxiety, I get physical symptoms as well. Not the lump in throat but a general chest burning/palpitations/headache.

Drinking coffee and eating chocolate are no nos for anxiety sufferers. Not sure if you do either, but I notice I can control my anxiety much easier when I lay off chocolate (i'm not much of a coffee drinker but it puts me into serious palpitations sometimes when I do).

Hope you feel much betterChat Icon you aren't alone
