I would love to move to the Carolinas. My friend lives in Charleston and there is always something new and fun for her to do. I always get so jealous whenever I talk to her!
I really liked living in the Triangle (I lived in Durham but it also includes Chapel Hill and Raleigh). If I could move back I'd live in Chapel Hill - I miss living in a liberal town!

Great question. Maybe SoCal, Florida or the Carolinas.

For Fun - If you could just pick up everything and move........................
We dream about block island where my sister lives but I don't know if I could handle it in the winter. Otherwise, dh thinks about going upstate near some of his family or we talk about Oregon if my sister ended up near her ILs.
If being near family wasn't an issue I'd pick somewhere warm. Dh would pick Klamath falls oregon which is supposed to be 65 most of the year which is too cool for me lol

Re: For Fun - If you could just pick up everything and move........................
DH went to grad school in Charlottesville VA. Really pretty town. He would definitely go to TX. Lived there, has friends there, loves it.
Ideally, I would love to buy a vacation home and have our place in NY too. I think I could find someplace in NC (DH also lived there and still owns a house), FL, or AZ even though I'm not very familiar with any of them. DH has already nixed AZ because it's land locked! Lol
Also love Boston but it's just as expensive as here and even colder! Not gonna happen!!

Seriously considering the Triangle, if DH finds a job! He could work in any university and that area would be perfect. I also looked at Ashville, NC and it fits my DH and DS very well. I'd adjust.
However, I know DH would need to be near water, so maybe the coast of North Carolina?
Out of the US: Ireland. Also, someplace along the coast. I just need water in my life.

Hofstra- sounds like you would like where we live: Richmond, VA. Very family friendly, right on a river, hardly any traffic, tons of parks/shopping/restaurants. Virginia beach is less than 2 hours, DC 2 hours, the mountains about 30 minutes west. Great schools, nice, affordable housing. Low taxes. Summer is hot, but tolerable. Fall and spring are perfect. NY still driving distance, so we can get up there for holidays, major family events. We moved here in 2009.

Maybe Sydney? I need to be in a city. I know I can't go rural and I've learned that suburbia is not my cup of tea.
Realistically, I'd be happy to just move back to the city asap. We will eventually but going quicker would be ahhhmazing.

What are the winters like? We thought about Richmond but I assumed it's still pretty cold (and I thought stuck in DC traffic but I guess I was wrong about that one).

Re: For Fun - If you could just pick up everything and move........................
Half of my family went to NC (Triangle Area), and the other half is in CT. While dh and I love NC, the schools kind of had us leaning towards making a move to CT someday. We are big skiiers/snowboarders, and we love to see the change of seasons. I also thinking CT could be a place we could easily move to, where our salaries will remain pretty much the same. Houses are still pricey in many areas of CT though. But taxes are alot cheaper!

Sounds really nice there!! I would totally consider VA as long as my DH could find good engineering companies down there.

Myrtle Beach, SC area... We are familiar with it since my parents own property there, so we are there at least once a year. I like that it doesn't get terribly cold in the winter.

For Fun - If you could just pick up everything and move........................
We moved to S. FL/ east coast 10 years ago. To us, it's a realistic place to pick up and move to, although if I could and money wasn't an issue, I'd likely move to Europe, Italy perhaps. But in any event, we bought a beautiful starter home, recently sold it and moved into our dream home a few months ago. It's so beautiful here, close to beach, quiet street, awesome wildlife, birds, bunnies, lake, and are building a new pool and backyard. So I'm pretty happy here and wouldn't want to be elsewhere.
ETA: I'd like a little studio in Manhattan just to visit on occasion. That would be perfection

Funny you posted this...we are seriously looking to relocate to Texas. Houston or Austin. I'm leaning towards Houston.
I live in Texas and I would recommend Austin anyday. Houston is dirty, smelly and is CROWDED. Austin has so much more culture and the scenery is the most beautiful area of Texas.

San Diego seems nice. Maybe Florida- space coast where dh's family is.
I'd consider NC but not while that governor is in office.
I lived on the Space Coast for a few years, I was in Palm Bay.
I graduated from high school in Palm Bay FL

My cousin moved to Kingwood, outside of Houston, a few years ago... he and his wife both make good money and have a gorgeous house there. 400k there buys you a 4,000 sq foot house, it's insane.
