DOE-Is going school to school to drop off resumes still the way to get an interview?
Specifically in Queens, which I know is a popular area to apply. I'm new to applying in the DOE so any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

I teach in Queens. I think it can only help to personally deliver your resume. Sure faxing is ok too, but more chance for it to get lost in the shuffle. What are you certified in?

Childhood and Early Childhood, and I'm working on Library Media right now (I can't get temporary certification until I have 12 credits, which I will have by the beginning of July).

I don't know how I'm going to do it. I have a non-teaching job, I took off for two interviews at a Long Island district (wound up not getting the job, which has devastated me), and all of DS's CPSEs and developmental pediatrician appointments. I don't know how I would swing a day off to pass out resumes, and then days off for interviews.

I would wait until around mid/end of July. That is when alot of the schools were beginning to hire for Sept from what I noticed. I got access to the open market from my aunt who already worked in the city, and was able to see what schools were hiring. I narrowed down a list of schools I liked and mailed out my resume and cover letter to all of the schools. A few days later, I put on a suit and drove all around Queens and stopped in with my resume. A couple of schools won't let you in passed security, but others will have you walk right into the principal's office.

I am in the same boat as you are in. What I have been doing is emailing the principals directly. I went online, found all the schools that I am interested in, and one by one I emailed them directly. Its scary though to think about waiting until July when so many LI districts are doing their hiring now
Hang in there and good luck!

Thanks, you too! I'm going to give that a try as well.
