Hip roof extension/dormer?
We currently live in a 1 story ranch with a hip roof, and without changing the footprint of the house (to avoid the tax increase), we're considering going up a floor and doing a master suite. Because we have a hip roof I'm not sure what it will look like or how to go about it? Dormer? Any input?

I'm pretty sure that building up will increase taxes, too, because it increases your livable space.
