Pretty new here…just heard the HB so I am 7 weeks and cautiously optimistic. Not released from my RE yet, so have not seen the OB. Wondering what your OB is saying about ZIKA if anything? A bit worried about it and not sure what the consensus is for LI/ NYC just yet.

My OB said I should not be concerned as LI is not in the endemic area. I am still concerned and went ahead and bought a bug spray.

What is your OB saying about ZIKA?

My sister wears pants and long sleeves in the late afternoon/evening and uses bug spray.

Basically there's no reason to worry about it yet if you or your dh/so do not travel anywhere on the cdc list.

We had a trip planned to an island which wasnt on the list at the time, it was planned before I got pg. and my ob recommended we cancel so we did. We got our tickets fully refunded (yay for United lol).

I use spray/lotion if I'm going to be outside. I just hate mosquitoes in general.

It's pricey but my cousin has a mosquito magnet machine and it's amazing.

Is anyone concerned about using bug spray? Using the spray worries me! Also, what spray do you use? Did they tell you which ones you can and cannot use?

Not at all. I've been using skin so soft but my doctor said its perfectly fine to use Off or something with Deet. He said to just wash it off when you come inside.

My OB is extremely conservative about the "rules" of pregnancy. He gives you a list of like 500 no-no's. It's a bit much if you ask me. However, when I asked about Zika, he said there is nothing to worry about. So for him to say that, I believe there is truly nothing to worry about.

My OB hasn't even mentioned it to me. Not even once. I did go out and buy the Off Deep Woods bug spray with deet, which I plan to use a lot this summer - we're out late by the fire pit and such and I always get bit up.

Yup. My doc wasn't concerned but just said to use bug spray when I go out.

Though, she did tell me to also shower it off at night so it doesn't just sit on my skin overnight.

I'm vacationing in myrtle beach right now. I asked my dr my last appointment and he said not to worry. He wasn't concerned all but he said if I was concerned, to use bug spray to make myself feel better. I figured if he wasn't worried, I won't worry myself either.

My BFF lost her son at 19 weeks to Zika. It's a huge fear of mine. My doctor said to wear a bug spray with Deet when outdoors and to be careful because if your partner has it, it can be sexually transmitted. And it lives in men much longer, I think for something like 6 months. He could have no symptoms. And although it's not here yet, it's expected to get here. Better safe than sorry. I'm not taking any chances.

My OB said to just wear bug spray when you are at a BBQ, beach, picnic, etc. It's not here yet and I'm more of a "I'll believe it when I see it" actually get here. They always say things like "it's coming" or "it's going to be the worst ever" and then it never is. I'm just avoiding the areas on the list right now.

Re: What is your OB saying about ZIKA? BUG SPRAY?

I asked my Dr. about 2 months ago and at that point he said that he wasn't sure if there was a reason to worry since it was still early in the season. He said that I can use bug spray but make sure it has deet in it, the all natural stuff won't work as well.

There hasn't been 1 reported case of someone catching Zika from a Mosquito here in the states so I'm not worried.

Was this in states? Miscarriages are causes by zika? I haven't heard this.

Re: What is your OB saying about ZIKA? BUG SPRAY?

She conceived on vacation in one of the known areas. But it still makes me worry like crazy. It's only a matter of time before it gets here. And it's sexually transmitted. There's still so much unknown as well. Better safe than sorry.

So sorry for your friend's loss.
