Diaper Rash Cure Recommendations
Currently my DD woke with a very bad diaper rash yesterday. I tried Desitin but she woke up with it looking the same. Anyone have anything they used that they find to work better? Or tips on how to treat it?

Diaper Rash Cure Recommendations
Dr Smith's Diaper Cream. Works wonders! Lube it on, thick. It cured the worst diaper rash and anytime my son has it, I put it on and it's gone the next day. Babies R Us and Walgreens have it for sure.

Re: Diaper Rash Cure Recommendations
The only two NON-prescriptions things that worked for DD
(1) Boudreaux's Butt Paste - put globs of it on- literally, glob it on.
or
(2) cornstarch (yes, regular plain old cornstarch in the baking section - i think- at the supermarket) mixed with olive oil into a paste - again, glob it on - not as much as the Boudreaux's Butt Paste, but not just a smear
Worst case of diaper rash reared it's ugly head the day before DD's baptism (it was SO bad we almost rescheduled her baptism) - the pediatrician gave us a prescription cream (I believe it was called nystatin) and it was amazing! I always had a tube of that for bad cases, when the previous 2 didn't cut it.

Re: Diaper Rash Cure Recommendations
We just went through this I let DD lay around in a towel naked for as long as possible to get the air to the rash Also switched between triple past with aquaphor on top and desitin max strength with aquaphor on top to keep the creams in contact with the skin for as long as possible.

Triple paste. If that doesn't work I usually need a prescription, either antifungal or antibacterial.

Re: Diaper Rash Cure Recommendations
Stop using wipes. Wet (warm) paper towels. Likely the chemicals in the wipes are irritating.
For DS, Desitin Max worked best. For DD, Triple Paste does sometimes, but she usually needs an rx. I keep one on hand from the ped that is a mixture that works on both yeast and non-yeast infections.

Diaper Rash Cure Recommendations
When my DS had really bad diaper rash - it was bleeding - my ped suggested to stop using wipes and use warm wet paper towels then dip a cotton ball into Milk of Magnesia (like mylanta) and dab that on the area and then cover the area with aquaphor.
Within 24 hours the diaper rash was gone!

Triple paste..Globs and Globs of it. Sometimes with Aquaphor to help keep it on. If after a few days it wasn't getting better, then an RX from the ped.

i used to make wipes (Pinterest) but then started getting mildew/ mold when we werent using as fast so we now use sensitive wipes
we had a LOT fewer diaper rashes before the switch!

I didn't make my own. Just cut up paper towels and leave a stack in the baby's room. Run warm water into a Tupperware and dip.
We only ever use sensitive wipes, but they still have chemicals that are bad for diaper rashes.

Diaper Rash Cure Recommendations
Be careful with using cornstarch to dry out the area. If the rash is being caused by yeast, the cornstarch will feed the yeast and the rash will get much worse and more painful. To see if its yeast, you can obviously go to the pediatrician for a diagnosis or buy some OTC Lotrimin anti-fungal cream and see if it responds to that. If it does, it's yeast related. If the Lotrimin doesn't clear it up in a few days, you'll likely need a prescription strength anti-fungal like Nystatin or Kentaconazole.
When DD gets bad rashes (which is anytime she's on antibiotics for ear infections), what helps the most is letting the area "air out" and going without a diaper when possible. She's only 14 months so this can be quite tricky, but if she pees or poops on the floor, I just clean it up. When she naps, I put a very thick, absorbent bath towel on her crib mattress and tuck in the sides, that way if she pees, it's absorbed into the towel -- no biggie. We switch to Water Wipes during rash time (Target and BRU sell them) and I only use the wipes for poop -- no wiping for pee. Finally, I've found something called Calmoseptine to be a godsend. It's OTC and available at most drug stores. The trick is that its not in the baby section -- it's in the adult incontinence section by the adult diapers and stuff. It's a combination of zinc oxide (acts as a barrier), menthol (which cools the area from burning), and calamine lotion (yep, the cream is the infamous calamine light pink). It's thick when applied and takes some effort to rub off, which is the point -- you don't want something that comes off as soon as the diaper is closed up. Good luck! Hope the rash clears ASAP!

Re: Diaper Rash Cure Recommendations
my first dd used to get bad diaper rashes often! ped told me to wipe her with warm paper towels (not wipes) then when she was dry put a layer of triple paste and seal it with a layer of aquaphor. that worked well most of the time but a few times i had to bring her in and the doc had to give me a prescription for something stronger.

Re: Diaper Rash Cure Recommendations
My ped recommended, and it worked, the following: layer of aquaphor to soothe the skin, then triple paste on top of that to act as a barrier.

Bath in oatmeal...put oatmeal in a sock and put in the tub (so you dont get oatmeal down the drain etc). Then let her go without diaper for awhile after the bath so that its completely dry. Then lots of Aquaphor and only use wipes for poop. My ped said pee diapers dont need wipes.

The only thing that worked for us was a layer of mylanta, then triple paste. Baby had horrible diaper rash but after that, never had it again
