School Districts - SW Nassau
Does anyone have any experience with Lynbrook, Oceanside and/or East Rockaway school districts? Currently looking at homes and trying to decide how strict to be in terms of school district zoning. I grew up in Valley Stream and I know what people "say" about the districts but don't have any actual experiences. I searched on greatschools.org but I can't determine how accurate those ratings are so I'm stumped! Thanks in advance!

I work in a neighboring district, and Lynbrook and Oceanside definitely have a lot more resources than east rockaway, which is a tiny district.

There's a Section of East Rockaway that's Lynbrook Schools, too. Be careful: there's a section of Lynbrook in Malverne Schools also.
I'd look more at the availability of higher-ed programs and opportunity for college credits and the overall percentage of graduates that go on to 4-year colleges. I also tend to think (IMO) schools that offer Mandarin Chinese as a foreign language are more highly ranked?
I live in Oceanside and grew up here, too.

I live in Oceanside with Oceanside schools. My DS hasn't started school yet though. I've heard very good things about the elementary and middle schools. I've also heard great things about Lynbrook schools. If we decide to move out of Oceanside, Lynbrook SD is at the top of our desired list.

Thanks everyone for the responses! Ideally my top picks would be Lynbrook and Oceanside, bigger definitely means more resources, I agree. But I'm sure there is also benefit to a smaller school like East Rockaway. I'm still a few years away from my son starting school - who knows what the next 10-15 years will bring in any district! Such a hard decision.

We're in OS, my LO isn't school aged but my neices and nephews are. No issues with the schools. RVC gets a great wrap. Maybe another town to consider, albeit much higher taxes.
