Babysitter rates

Hi - I need to hire someone in Sept. for two days a week (7 month old & 4 yr old)
What is the going rate for the following:
-Hours will be 8-6 or 9-4 (flexible schedule)

-DS will be starting K so she will have to drop him to school (9am) & pick up at 3pm
School is a 5 minute walk

-Do laundry for the baby

-Prepare snack and start homework with 4yr old.

My husband and I cannot agree on a rate so I need to settle a debate.
TIA

I'd say $12-$15/hour. Based on the information you provided, the bulk of the time they are just going to be with your 7 month old while your older one is in Kindergarten. I'm leaning more towards the $15/hour rate given that you'd like them to do laundry. IMO, that's something additional that isn't included with regular babysitting.

Re: Babysitter rates

Where are you located? I would say $15-20. It may be hard to find someone for just two days so may need to pay more. For me I wanted someone a little older (not college) so I paid more for that. Also if your son is off or sick she will have two so keep that in mind for pay.

Re: Babysitter rates

You can easily get a baby sitter at $12-15 per hour. I hired a bunch of sitters in the past and their pay range was 10-13/hour for 2 kids.

I'm currently paying a college student $13/hr for 5 days a week and she helps with 3 of my kids, one of whom goes to school.

The more incentive you provide, the more likely you'll be able to get someone at the lower rate, eg. proximity to sitter's home, not needing a babysitter who drives, better work hours (say 9-5pm instead of 8-6pm), more hours....

I found one through a friend and another through care.com.

Good luck!

I am a sitter and i would charge $15. That's my rate for any job that is under 20 hours. Around $12 is more like the rate for full time. Good luck! Ps: I am looking to pick up additional work. Where are you located?

Thank you all for the replies. $15 was my number so I'm happy I was on target. I already have a sitter but she got a full time teaching job so have a few people lined up to interview.

I pay $18/hr for similar. I have a 5 month old and 8 year old although she is mainly only with the baby. 15-20hrs per week. She does laundry. She is a professional nanny and older so assuming you are getting more of a college aged person, I'd say $15.
