updo prep question

I am having an updo for a wedding. Really more of a side do with curls. I called to get an appointment and the lady wants me to blow it out with no product before. NO flat iron or curling iron.

I have a curly hair. Usually when I get an updo they work with my curls.

So the issue is.. I don't know how to blow out my hair. I just work with my curls. I have the rehearsal dinner the night before until late. I can't come home and struggle to blow out my hair for hours. So I am going to have to get a blowout with no product the day before. Is this crazy? Why do I need a blowout? I was arguing with the lady. I can't go someplace else because I am going there with 7 other women from my family. The stylist told me if I didn't do it she would have to charge me for a blowout also. Is this the norm?

You need a blow out because she can't wash, blow and style you in one shot for just the price of an updo. It's not uncommon - whenever I need a styling I make sure my hair is ready to go. And yes, she would have to charge you for a blow out if that's what you wanted in addition to getting the style done. If you want her to work with your curls, just tell her that. But all those hairstyles you have pics of, they are done on straight hair.

Also remember, you're hair shouldn't be pin straight when they go to work on it, so don't go crazy making it perfect.

Everything said. My hair is curly also. I blow it out before an updo but don't worry about it being pin straight because she will use curling and flat irons on it to do the style. The curls in those styles are curling iron curls, not natural curls. Start out by rough drying (like using your fingers and blow dryer, don't worry about making it smooth) to get it mostly dry, and then go in with a large round brush and do the last bit of drying, focusing on making the top relatively smooth. It's actually better if there's a little texture because it will hold the style better.

I don't know about why you need to blow it out etc., but can you blow it out before you go to the rehearsal dinner so that you won't have to stress about it later that night or the next morning?

OK thanks. Glad to see she wasn't nuts for asking for this. I am going to get a blow out but not too straight the day before. I literally don't even own a blow dryer that I can use. I have like a 10$ one for very small jobs. I have an immense amount of hair and never ever dry it. I have never in my life blown my own hair out. I have to have someone do it.
