Getting home from egg retrieval
Has anyone been allowed to drive home after egg retrieval if they had anesthesia?
I literally cannot find anyone who can take me to my retrieval. I have no idea what I am going to do and I am trying to figure out if I can convince them to let me drive. I have a feeling that won't let me.
Ugh

They ask if you have a driver but very few places actually check to make sure. If no driver where I work, pt have to remain a few extra hours before they can be let go
FYI, they are not going to say yes, you can drive. Anesthesia Lic is on the line, they will say no you need a driver. Ask for other options like I mentioned, staying longer etc

Yeah, RMA was the same. They made sure someone was there to take me home. I wasnt groggy so much, but i was tired. and it was a 40 min drive from the surgery center to home.
I wish I could come drive you!!

my office would not allow us to let a pt get in a cab, knowingly.
Reason, its "unsafe" pts are groggy and something could happen to them.
You can try and say, my ride is meeting me at the door.

I know what it was like, single and going this route alone.
I had trouble finding someone to take me. I live near the train so I was able to take the LIRR to appt but struggled to locate someone to pick me up
PS, I never told anyone I was going though IVF until my ER, when I had to try and find a ride home

Re: Getting home from egg retrieval
It's not safe to drive after anesthesia. Even if you feel fine , you're reflexes are not as quick as you would think and it can put you or others in danger.
I'd call them and ask them what protocol is for this. They may have you wait longer (to wake up) and then take a cab

Re: Getting home from egg retrieval
At Cornell, in my experience, they made sure I had someone with me. Also, during my IVF orientation, the nurse specifically said that we can't use "the cab driver" as our adult.
Maybe you can look into a nursing service for a day?

Re: Getting home from egg retrieval
Thank you all!!!
A car service is normally not acceptable. They want to see who is with you and I've been walked out with my friend's to her car to boot.
I want to say that a few of you sweet, sweet ladies offered me a ride. I just can't say how deep your generosity runs through my heart. Thank you!
I thought I would need to fly my brother in, but my friend told me this morning that she can help me. Whew!
I started this cycle a few days ago. I had 9 beautifully resting follicles as my dr said. So let's see what this IVF cycle brings

Glad you found somebody to take you home too. What day did you do the ER? I did one on Friday (thought it was going to be yesterday). Anxiously waiting further results (on what may make it to day 5 for testing as doing pgd (partially covered by my insurance- though so many other things are no longer). Good luck.
Also, if this one doesn't "take" I will need to go elsewhere with my insurance from where I went for this one. Where are procedures held at LI IVF? Is it all Melville? I loved RMA when I had a consultation with them- but having all procedures in Manhattan is too difficult (though I used to live only a few avenues away from where they are- when I did live in Manhattan- not convenient at all now).

Aim, when is your egg retrieval?
They are thinking about the 25th.
We will see if I go right into a transfer on day three or if any embryos do well and can go to day 5/6 for genetic testing.
